kjktj - long time no see
Thanks for the update with thoughts and prayers for Tommy's complete recovery!
Another rainout today
Guess its back to the espanol practice.
Darin has begun November in a strong fashion in Venezuela.
Last night - prior to his last bat - he recorded his 9th hit in his last 9 official bats. (He also had 3 walks sandwiched in that little stretch.)
It was the first time since 1965 that someone did that in the Venezuelan league. The last player to do it was Vic Davilillo (oldtimers will remember Vic).

9 for 9 is not strong fashion, it's wonderful.
Great job!

I agree with playfair, he's EN FUEGO...congratulations to Darin. And yes, I remember Vic Davilillo when he was playing with the Dodgers in the latter part of his career.
its - huge congrats to Darin - no way can I "one-up" you so I guess I'll try and "one-down" you
Mine went 2-9 (as opposed to 9-9) in a double header the other day and here are two pictures of him with close plays at home plate. One he was called out and one he scored. I asked why he did not slide and he said that they try and avoid collisions at home plate if possible. Ok... I said He said the fields in Columbia are like playing in sand at the beach.

I'm with you CD. It's safer for him to slide than try and twist around the catcher. Great to have the pictures and get a sense of the environment Tyler's playing in.
Baseballdad1228 - thanks!
Speaking of the small world of baseball, the average person might not be aware that your son and mine played against each other for several years while in college. Hope they get the same opportunity in the pros

That would be wonderful! I truly enjoy following the sons the HSBBW family and Tyler always has been a favorite of mine, as you know. Another is Coach Merc's older son, Joe, who played against my Mike beginning when they were 13 and eventually winding up on the Red Sox team at East Coast Pro before their senior year in HS. Great people on here.
Coach Merc is a favorite of mine as well.
Did High Point happen to play Wake last Spring? If so, your sons played against each other again. Very, very small world at the next levels past high school. My son has crossed path with numerous hsbbweb member's kids and/or their parents. It's way beyond coincidence.

WFU and High Point split two games last spring with both Mike Ms having a hit in each of the games. It really is a small baseball world. My son played against both Mercurio players and that dad of theirs as coach and then with Joe in Wilmington, who is now coaching his brother at High Point.
I dont know CD...He goes in standing up he better colide (Erstaad style)... The slide is the collision avoider though. (disclaimer.. my kid is a catcher.)
2-9 is solid. He may not feel it but 2-9 is just fine. Sometimes you carry - sometimes someone picks you up - sometimes you sacrifice.. 2-9 does not feel great but it is a contribution to a contribution sport.

Hey - once a college parent - always a college parent!
Seriously, thanks for posting here. I believe I was able to deduce who your son was with a little help from infielddad. I am pretty sure our sons have played several games against each other as well while in college. Hope, like with Baseballdad1228's sons, our sons continue to play against each other in the pros! I'll say it again, a small world indeed!
How about one of you filling me in on CollegeParentNoMore's son? Would like to know who's crowding into this ever-shrinking baseball world!
Baseballdad1228,
I sent you a PM announcing that I am crowding into your shrinking baseball world!
catchersdad

catchersdad
Catchersdad and I are basically next-door neighbors!!!
catchersdad - consider yourself a member of the small baseball world club. Of course, our son's played while yours was at Clemson. I will send out the same good wishes, may they all meet again in the pros
We've had so much fun in this thread with the small baseball world stuff, that it motivated me to start a new thread in the general forum related to the topic - please participate there as well!
What????? This has been my all time favorite thread. I love you guys who have kids who have made it! I so enjoy all of their journey.
playfair - thanks for contributing here and we'll keep this thread alive for several more months.
A little slow reporting lately due to bad weather. they are flying to Medellin today for a 3 game weekend series. Yes, that is the same Medellin of Pablo Escobar fame....

Assuminig you are referring to my Pablo Escobar comment BaseballDad?
I don't get the Entourage channel but there is a must-see two-hour documentary on the History Channel about how much effort it took by various elements of our government and Columbia to finally destroy Escobar - perhaps one of the most evil individuals of all time.
My son finished up his weekend series in Medellin yesterday and they are flying home to Cartegena today. Said Medellin was nice and they stayed in a nice hotel.
The game Friday was rained out and they played a double header on Saturday followed by a noon start yesterday. He had an interesting statistical day yesterday going 1-2 with 4 walks and a stolen base from the leadoff position. He has started every game thus far. He has also gotten some good advice from teammates (e.g., hittiing approach, analyzing pitchers, etc.) who have many years of experience in professional baseball.

CD,
Yes, Entourage on HBO.
1-2 with four walks and a SB is a great day. Let him keep hitting .500 and get on base five of six plate appearances... Cha-Ching LOL.
Aside from the rain, this seems to be a great experience for TB.

You can just make out my son in this photo at 2b. Unfortunately, his team lost this game by one run. He has been struggling with his hitting lately and he knows he has to battle through it.
The following pictures are just not right. It's not right to have this much fun
After the long nite of socializing, CD's son could be found in his apartment til dawn the next morning celebrating...
Salsa...
Salsa...
Looks like his hitting is OK to me........
Who cares about hitting?
And I thought that playing straight through from February to December was a grind. Boy was I wrong!
Looks like he conquered the language barrier OK and his batting average just went up a few points!!

Great thread.Loved reading through it.
As a second baseman, your son has obviously learned it's better to go for two than one most of the time.
Yep, it looks like your son prefers two CD...unlike his buddy in the background that must be the first baseman, as he only has ONE single gal...
Thanks everyone for reading and comments!
I've tried to have fun with this thread and I think we have.
No, those are not my son's Columbian girlfriends unfortunately, but from the day he arrived in Columbia, he said the people were beautiful.
I had no idea how true that was...
