Are they beneficial? Do coaches actually attend and if they do are they legitimately scouting or are they just there to make some money?

HYD11...welcome! There are numerous threads on this topic. The consensus advice seems to be that if the host is a school you are interested in, or if the school you are interested in will be there as an instructor, evaluator, etc., it may be worthwhile attending provided it is within your budget. One of the ways to get an idea if it is just a money maker is to ask if there is a limit on the number of players they accept. I have heard of some local winter camps having over 200 attend. Certainly it would be hard to stand out in that situation. The one hitting camp my son attended right before the start of his junior year in school had a limit of 36 (6 groups of 6 per station) and charged $70 for an all day session. I felt this was a worthwhile experience.

There's a camp in NJ in January that's sponsored by URI and William & Mary. I found out about it from TPX in New Hampshire when I was looking for last minute showcases for my son. There's also TPX in NH and another at Northeastern. Check with All-Star (ASBA) and Arsenal to see if they have anything or can point you towards any situations.
