I know a family whose son lost his left leg in a boating accident two years ago. His dad is a local orthopaedist and owns part of the local Brewers farm team. He was a freshman vasity pitcher. Well, two years later he is back on he mound....sniff..
A pitcher's "plant" leg (non-throwing side) takes a real pounding. His prosthetic leg (which he calls "his baseball leg") must be very skillfully made, but I bet he still copes with some discomfort to do this.
Congrats to Nate, and good luck to him the rest of the season!
That is an amazing story about an even more amazing young man, family, team and coaches! Boy, that is just uplifting. Dad04, thank you for sharing this one. The day looks better already.
Inspirational. A few years ago Abilene, Kansas had a tremendous athlete with one arm much like Jim Abbot. He jacked a home run out of our place one day and it's the only time I've ever grinned when my pitcher gave up a homer.
