Winthrop University

Very good program with much recent success. Couple of drafted players with Carte going in the second round as the highest pick. Good schedule and facilities.

Big South Conf: Top of the conference is quality with Birmingham-Southern, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop. The cellar of the conference is very weak.

Coastal is trying to bail out of the Big South but that is a football-inspired move. The Big South currently only has 5 football playing schools.

This is a conference in "flux" right now. None of it should affect Winthrop and Winthrop should stay at the top in baseball for quite awhile.

Facilities are excellent except for the afternoon sun affecting hitters. They are correcting that problem right now (installing a sun block net outside the OF wall).

Good location, smaller town, but near a large city so there are lots of options. Weather is great.

Not a fan of their coaches, but that's a personal thing. Contact itsinthegame. His son attended there for awhile. He can give you some detailed insite into the program.

Joe Hudak is one of the best around. Elevated the program to the highest levels of D1.

He recruited my son when Joe was a coach at Mississippi State.

NJ06...you must be the St.Rose catcher...caveat emptor...if playing time is not an issue for the 1st two years (not saying you won't) but that is always a possibility. Winthrop is a good school, take advantage of the education they offer. best of luck to you.

Does anyone have recent information/experience with Winthrop?

Very nice, big stadium. Huge batter's eye that seems to be as big as a drive-in theatre's screen. Rock Hill, SC is a good sized town, and not very far from Charlotte, NC. Nice campus.

My son says the Winthrop Recruiting Coordinator is nice.

All the schools in that general NC/SC radius seem nice,

it would be an honor (and great) if he gets to keep playing at any of them
