My son, who is a Sophmore, will be participating in the Perfect Game showcase comming up in Ft. Myers, Florida. I understand that only wood bats are used. How significantly will this likely affect his showing. He swings wood okay...but normally uses metal. Am I correct in thinking that most of the players showing up primarily use metal as well during the majority of their playing time, other then at showcase events?

Yes, I am aware of the increased difficulty in making proper contact with a wood bat. My question primarily was should I expect to see players hitting the ball off the fence routinely with a wood bat at the Perfect Game Showcase. My son hits doubles and triples with metal but I think that will turn into singles and doubles with wood. Will this negatively reflect on him or is it normal to see good players hit singles and doubles at this level?
The better he looks the better the ranking. He should start using wood right now and hit every day, even if indoors off of a tee.

The PG people will be very interested in what his swing looks like. YOu can go back and read the profiles on players to see what they are looking for.

It is a very good experience and you will see a wide range of abilities there, but almost all will be very solid fundamentally.

Good Luck and have fun.
jgrabe,

I cant speak to how someone will react to doubles versus homeruns.
I do think if he has a good swing - the right people will see it immediately.

All I can say is that your son should start using wood bats immediately. Wherever possible.
Just so he knows where he is.

There is no comparison whatsoever to hitting with wood vs. hitting with $300 metal launchers.

None.
