I am going to assume that any player on the playoff roster regardless of how many games he played is eligible. However, could also be all the players on the regular 40 man roster.
You don't need to even be a player to receive a ring. Most of the front-office personnel get them and even some ticket holders and others if the organization allows it. There are lots of them for the Diamondbacks for the 2001 World Series.
There are different levels of world series rings. The player ring is different from the scouting and office personnel rings. I would imagine that they are about a tenth of the cost of a players ring. I received a world series ring when I scouted for Anaheim and they were different than the players rings and for good reason.
We were at a weeklong camp one year and one of the Yankees' scout was showing off his rings to the guys, each day he would bring out a different WS ring, he would tell the guys why he really liked each one.
They certainly may have been different than the player's rings but they were certainly impressive enought.
Shares of revenue historically are voted on by the players. Some who got called up late, or who might've played key roles before getting traded, might get full shares or partial shares, depending on the votes of those who are there at the end to vote.
I guess I figured rings were handled the same way, though I don't really know.
Thanks for all the responses. My son's former high school coach throws BP for the Houston Astros and received a replica ring for their 2005 appearance. He said it was same as the players rings but not as expensive ( gold amount and jewell quality ). I've seen it and it's definitely quite impressive. I know there is alot of tradition in baseball. Do players vote playoff money shares to late call ups etc?
Speaking of rings my son got his CWS ring the other day. He was a redshirt last year but still got one. It is absolutely beautiful. When he is home I will take a picture of it and post it. Now back to WS ring discussion.
Coach May, That is something that he (and you) will always treasure, whether he played or not. It's freakin HUGE! Son's ring incorporates the ACC championship as well as CWS. He wore it once, LOL, on the plane home during Thanksgiving, he was afraid to pack it. It was very noticeable and he had to explain to everyone what it was and how he got it. He has never worn it since.
Did the schools give CWS rings for participating in the CWS vs winning it.
Some of the guys who had won the WAC three years in the row were disappointed when they combined the WAC championship ring with the CWS championship rings and only got one ring. Granted the National Championship ring was pretty (very) nice.
