Ever heard the saying " You've got your cart before the horse"?
The problem isn't "comfort at SS", or that you "won't get to start until Jr. year", or "politics".

Advise:
1. Keep first things first! Focus on where you are NOW.
2. Work on improving YOURSELF. Forget about anyone else.
3. When the time arrives for tryouts NEXT YEAR, do your best. That may include playing another spot (getting out of the comfort zone). Bottom line, what's more important? A. Playing or B. Playing SS.
Here's an example for you:
Son has played all positions
except SS & 2nd at one time or another, but shined at 3rd & pitcher. Last year, he enters High School & was 3rd string behind 2 Seniors at 3rd base during tryouts & practises. He noticed only 1 (a Jr.) over on 2nd base, so he talks to Coach and
asks if he could "take grounders over there" because "I want to be in there doing more!"
Coach agreed, so son goes over & is practicing with the Jr. on 2nd (never done this position before).
His bat was alive, too. Within a couple weeks, Coach calls him over to say, "P..., you need to go buy a pair of white spikes". Coach put him on Varsity, the first freshman in the 27 year history of the school. Then a couple weeks later, he's starting 2nd base, and pitching!
Now, as sophomore, he's back on 3rd, continuing to pitch & hitting 4 hole! Working for all region honors. (BTW, team is 7-0 in district, going for 18th championship in 21 yrs, 5A school, so it's a stronghold for baseball here in North Texas)
Bottom line question again... What's more important? Where can you make a contribution? What are you willing to do for the team? How badly do you want it?
