Junior College game. Three man crew. Runners at 2 and 3. One out. WIld pitch, runners advance so now only on 3. Fly ball to left, caught, runner on third tags and scores. Defense appeals an early departure by runner at second base. Umpire calls for the out. Would not acknowledge error. Luckily offensive team was up by several runs

Are you actually saying the ump called a runner who wasn't even at second base out?

Wouldn't it be an issue for the scorekeeper? That is, ask the ump to check the official book to see if there was a runner on second base?

That's a pretty bad call, I have to admit. Reminds me of the ump who called a kid out on strike one. (That really did happen, but it was youth baseball.)
Working one man, adult SB, I had a ghost play myself a couple years ago. SS dives to his left and up the middle, great play, bounces up and heads for 2B, I see his foot beat the other guys foot by an inch, out at 2, SS throws to 1b, beats the BR by another inch, out at 1, beautiful DP, but as I turn to head back to the plate, I notice F3, F4 and F1 just staring at me dumbly, "what" I say's? Uh, the SS says there was no body on, I meekly look around 2nd and sure enough no runner in site, it was in fact F4 rushing to and touching 2b just late of the SS. I gotta ask, "well what the #$%# were you doing? SS says "I was just practing turning two". I look at F4, "then what were you doing"? I was covering the bag cause I thought there was a runner too.
Sheesh.
jjk, good of you to share that so the rest of us can get a giggle at your expense.

We had a situation this year where the other team had runners on 1st and 2nd. Batter hit a popup to 2nd, infield fly was called, and ball was caught. In the meantime runner on 2nd had left early and got doubled off. Ump called him safe, when I asked him how the runner could be called safe he explained to me that the infield fly rule removed the force out. Confused
