Our son is a 6'1 165 lb. RHP/Catcher HS junior. He throws low- to mid-80s with excellent control in all his pitches. His HS coach projects that he will add 5-7 mph with an adjustment to his pitching mechanics in the off season. His pop time is consistently in the 2.0-2.1 range -- his throws are effective and produce outs. He has been told by his coaches and others that he has a "major league" arm. He blocks well. During Legion ball last summer (50 games) he caught every inning that he didn't pitch and was charged with four passed balls. He is athletic and quick, but he is not a fast baserunner. His coach tells him that he has a beautiful swing, but he has not been very successful at the plate since entering high school. He has a good academic record, is a hard worker in the weight room, and is a great kid with a good baseball mind, instincts, and attitude.
Is there any reason or way to market a player like our son? We've done nothing to this point and I know we'd be starting late if we started today. All the same, we wonder if we should wait until after the Legion season in hopes that he can get his bat back to work? The knowledgeable folks (his father and I do not consider ourselves knowledgeable) who have seen his at bats believe that he is more than capable of contributing offensively if he can regain his confidence.
Even if we decide not to do anything with all the information we've acquired from hours of reviewing this forum, it has been fascinating reading. Thanks to those of you who have contributed so well and so regularly to make this a fabulous resource for the baseball community.
