Late inning squeeze forces tie
7/6/2010

DBAT Mustangs pinch hitter Jake Baxter (2012 - Forney, TX) laid down the perfect squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring across the tying run. The ball stopped about halfway up the third baseline on the chalk as the Arsenals' only play was to hope it rolled foul.

Hunter Courson (2012 - Sachese, TX) had a good game for DBAT going 2-4 with a double and a run. He showed good bat speed and made consistent solid contact.

Ben Machtinger (2011 - Cherry Hill, NJ) had a good game for Tri-State going 1-2 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base, and walked. He stayed through the ball well on his line drive double to the right center field gap.

Michael Hoffman (2012 - Arlington, TX) looked good on the mound for DBAT in his one inning of relief. The projectable 6-3/200 lb right hander sat at 81-83 with a quick arm action.

San Diego Show v Arlington A's
7/6/2010

The San Diego Show emerged with a victory in their first game of pool play Tuesday afternoon, recording a 4-0 win over the Arlington A's - Navy at Centennial HS. The pitcher's duel was scoreless until the 5th inning, when the Show broke through for two runs against Arlington starter Jamie Bittle (2011/Fort Worth Pascho/Fort Worth, TX). A Trevor Podratz two-out double scored Justin Sheehan, and Nick Fornaca (2011/Cathedral Catholic/San Diego, CA) followed with an RBI-single to complete the frame and give the Show a 2-0 cushion. They added a pair of insurance runs in their half of the 6th on a two-run Bobby Zarubin (2012/Santa Fe Christian/San Diego, CA) homer. Standout 2012 prospect Trey Williams (2012/Valencia/Saugus, CA) followed with an opposite field double but was left stranded.

Show starter Michael Martin (2013/Cathedral Catholic/San Diego, CA) had an up-and-down performance but was solid, throwing a complete game shutout. Martin struggled at times with his control, but pitched out of any trouble that surfaced. Martin was 81-84 with his fastball, showing good armspeed and occasionally mixing in a curveball. His mechanics are solid and will become cleaner with time, and his 6'1"/190 frame projects well at his young age. He is a SoCal prospect to keep an eye on.

Sons of Present and Future Hall of Famers
7/7/2010

The sons of one present and one future Hall of Famer are starting for their teams in the 17U National Championship.

2012 Ryan Ripken is the starting first baseman for the Mid-Atlantic Rookies. Ripken just slammed a double in the Rookies 9 am game on Field #2 at the complex and went 0-1 with a sacrifice bunt in the Rookies win yesterday.

2011 Connor Biggio is the starting second baseman for the Houston Heat Silver and went 2-3 with a run scored and an Rbi. The scout notes on Biggio sound very similar to what might have been written on his dad at the same age: "small slender body, aggressive baserunner, good instincts."

Craig Biggio is in Marietta this week watching his son play. He also coaches the St. Thomas HS team in Houston where both his sons play.

Andrew Hurn (2011 - Darien, CT) picked up the win going 4 innings allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks. He went 2-4 with a big 3 run home run in the 5th inning. He showed good bat speed at the plate with some pop.

Texas Blackhawks relief pitcher Ralph Garza(2012 - New Braunfels, TX) looked real good on the mound in his one batter of relief. He was 84-86 MPH with his fastball showing a live loose projectable arm. He pitches with low effort and throws strikes.

Dallas Patriots Red top Best 9 White Sox
7/7/2010

Dallas Patriots 17U Red beat the Best 9 White Sox 7-3 in the 11:30 AM game at Alpharetta Legion Field. The Patriots were paced by their lead off hitter and center fielder Ryan Goldblatt (2011 - Plano, TX). He went 2-4 at the plate with a run and a stolen base. He showed good line drive middle of the field contact and squred the ball up well. Trey Hudgins (2011 - Sherman, TX) also contributed 2 RBI in the win.

Relief pitcher Dameron pitched very well in relief retiring all 9 batters he faced. He throws from a side arm arm slot which was deceptive for the White Sox hitters and sat at 77-79 MPH with sink and armside run. He also threw his slider for strikes with deception.

White Sox lead off hitter Kody Belcher played well going 2-4 at the plate showing a balanced swing with some bat speed.

2011 SS Matt Dean-Dallas Yankees/The Colony HS, Highland Village, TX
7/10/2010

6-2, 190 lbs, R/R, Aflac All-American. Dean went 1-4 in the Yankees 10-0 win over Team Elite Black on Friday night, hitting in the #3 hole. Game Notes: Good size, quick bat, solid contact, balanced approach, + power, aggressive swing but still in control, good arm, quick hands defensively, smooth in the infield.

Dean is also one of the many standout football players among the top baseball prospects in the 2011 class. He was named his district's Offensive Player of the Year last fall in a 5A district in Texas, no small accomplishment in the football crazed Dallas area.
