If you could arrange it, I would recommend he play two consecutive weeks. One week "playing up" with the 17u's (heavily scouted), one week playing "on age" with the 16u's.

16u is not as heavily scouted but it will help with building the PG dossiere.

WWBA events are great events in any event, but especially helpful for pitchers because of the ability to get reliable reports/data on the PGX web service. It can also help with PGX rankings as he progresses through high school, and a good ranking (if you are fortunate enough to get one) can help get your e-mails answered.

I've never been to the 18u event, but I understand it is not quite as heavily scouted in the summer since a lot of those who are actually 18 have already graduated (either already committed or picked over) and those who are 17 are usually there for the 17u event also.

All the events are big but the field for the 17u has gotten huge over the past few years. Truly amazing but it does result in more and more games being played away from the East Cobb complex, so you have to work hard to keep your targeted scouts informed of your whereabouts. Use e-mail heavily because as an underclassman he cannot receive phone calls or talk to them face to face.
The 18U is scouted very heavy. Many drafted players being followed by the MLB clubs that drafted them. Also many top high schoolers for next years class. I would say the 17U is only slightly more scouted.

The 16U is getting extremely popular with college recruiters. Each of the past 4 years the number of recruiters has doubled.
