My sons team will be going to the WWBA event this summer and I'm not sure what to expect. Specifically, just by attending will he recieve a"PG" rating or is that something that we have to ask for or do they have to attend a PG showcase? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm sure PGStaff will be along at some point to clarify, but I'm pretty sure ratings come directly from showcases, while rankings come from a cross section of different sources of information.
Of course your son's performance will end up in his profile - things like throwing speed (if a pitcher), and if he was a standout in some way. If he is mentioned in any of the game blogs it will be linked to his profile as well.
You must attend a PG Showcase to get a rating. They scout every player at tournaments and will often write about players in scout blogs. So, you do not need to attend a PG showcase to be ranked. Many players who are ranked have only been seen at PG tournaments or other top events..and have not attended a PG showcase (yet). If you search on this topic on this site, you will find a prior, more detailed explanation...likely directly from PG Staff.
Thanks, I will do the search.
My understanding of PG is the same as the two responses you have received. PG Staff will likely post to clarify. My son has attended several PG tourneys, but we have not been able to fit in a showcase yet. He is ranked in his class, but does not have a PG grade attached to his profile.
Ratings are the products of showcases except in rare instances. A player might still get ranked based on tournament performances. I think there are cases of pitchers getting ratings, with their tourney outings being graded just as a showcase outing would have been. But I've never seen it for a non-pitcher.
