* I thought the umpiring overall was very good. Not much yapping from anyone over balls and strikes or other calls.

From what I was told, it was the best event they had ever participated in.

This is the third tournament Allan has attended at that facility.... and it rates at the top of my list as best around. Although, for the 17U tourney they only let 12 teams go to the playoffs, and many 4-1 teams did not make it which was disappointing.
And the EAST Cobb umpires.... EARN their reputation.

I agree 100%, the baseball facilities and the High Schools are magnificent. No wonder they play such great ball! And the hospitality is truly southern all the way.

This is the 3rd consecutive year that we've had unsolicited negative comments about the umpiring at an East Cobb tournament.
When are they going to learn?
Since it is a strikingly similar comment from a different parent each year, there might be some substance to it.
Happens all the time...pretty soon NO ONE goes to the "tournament".
The 17& under and 18 & under championships had a combined 148 teams. Well over 400 games were played over the two week period.
A Texas team beat another Texas team in the championship game of the 17 & under. A South Carolina team beat an East Cobb (Braves) team in the finals of the 18 & under.
The two top East Cobb programs "Yankees" and "Astros" were in the tournaments. The Astros are often the team that we hear gets all the calls from the umpires.
I don't know about other East Cobb tournaments, but we pay a lot of money and use mostly all college umpires for our tournaments in East Cobb. I can say with all certainty "they do not favor anyone". In fact, the "home field" East Cobb Astros were eliminated from the tournament on a mistaken call. With two outs in the last inning with the Astros holding a one run lead, there was a ball hit down the left field line that everyone claims was clearly foul by a good margin. The umpire called the ball fair and the South Texas Sliders scored two runs on the play and moved into the championship game.
These umpires, like all umpires, missed some calls over the 400+ games. It happens even in the Big Leagues. Not even the East Cobb teams that were eliminated complained about the umpiring calls. And these umpires tossed East Cobb and other coaches a few times. There were complaints about umpires being too argumentative, but none regarding unfairness or favoritism.
Please understand that the East Cobb Yankees and East Cobb Astros are two great programs that have won many national championships all over the country. They don't just win at the East Cobb complex.
If you play over 400 games, somebody is going to complain about the umpiring. We expect the same number of teams or more next year. I hope the same umpires come back again.
