R1 on third, R2 on second.  A wild pitch gets past the catcher and takes a funny carom off the backstop.  R1 scores easily from third and as R2 rounds third the ball rolls all the way over to the on deck circle where the on deck batter picks up the live ball.

Do we have to get an out for the interference assuming that no play was likely on R2 who rounded third but was not breaking for home?

3.2.3

If a thrown live ball unintentionally touches a base coach in foul territory, or a pitched or thrown ball touches an umpire, the ball is live and in play. If the coach is judged by the umpire to have interfered intentionally with the thrown ball, or interferes in fair territory, the interference penalty is invoked. PENALTY: The ball is dead immediately and the runner is out. The batter-runner or runner may be out as in 7-4-1f and 8-4-2g. Other runners return as in 8-2-8.

SECTION 21 INTERFERENCE — OFFENSIVE, UMPIRE, SPECTATOR ART. 1 . . . Offensive interference is an act (physical or verbal) by the team at bat: a. which interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses any fielder attempting to make a play;

3.2.3 says dead ball runner out if interference occurs... but the definition of interference - IMO - eas not met.

Since no play was attempted by the defensive team.. I have nothing.

The touch did not put the defensive team at any disadvantage,

But in between innings I would definitely remind the player and coach that that is a live ball and should NOT be touched.

SITUATION 19: With runners on first and second, the pitch rebounds off the catcher's shin guard and goes to the on-deck circle. An on-deck batter, not thinking, picks up the ball and throws it to the pitcher. The runners (a) were not moving at the time or (b) attempting to advance to the next base. RULING: In (a) the ball is declared dead. In (b) the ball is declared dead and the runner that the umpire believes a play would have been made on is declared out. If the umpire is uncertain, the runner nearest home would be called out. (2-21-1a, 8-4-2g)
