I am so excited to share this news with all of the HS Baseball Web family.

A new sponsor who is very close to me... Smile

And a new way to help YOU pay for your player's love of the game!

Many of you know that this website is owned by a family in Minnesota (mine), and that I have donated my time and money over the years, to administer the site and pay the large costs for hosting and technical support. Some of our wonderful members chip in by donating from time to time, and we have several forum sponsors and advertisers who are greatly appreciated. But still, most months I dip into my own bank account to pay part of the monthly costs of about $800.

But now the exciting news...

My family has just launched a business called GoodSportGifts.com which will help YOU to pay for your son's baseball expenses (and your family's other sports, too!). At the same time, our hope is that this new venture will help to support the HS Baseball Web.

Please check it out by clicking on the new Good Sport Gifts banner on the left side of this forum, and let me know what you think!

MN-Mom,

I have signed up and am wanting to use it for our HS Booster club. I will provide feedback and questions as we proceed.

It is kind of funny as we were just talking about this very type of site a couple of days ago!

We wondered why there wasn't a site where people could shop and designate a portion of their purchase to a group they wanted to sponsor.

There are a few regional sites but nothing we could have used......
Thanks everyone! We're excited to see several HS Baseball Web members signed up for fundraisers already!

55mom,

We do not have a Facebook page for Good Sport Gifts yet, but will start one this weekend.

I should also mention that we are still adding inventory to the gift shop. There are over 200 products available now, but we have about 100 more to add. Smile

Coach Bob,

Welcome to the HS Baseball Web, and thanks for asking:

Will the products being sold on your site expand over time?

Yes! Smile

We have about 200 products now, and I'm busy uploading almost 100 more products. We will continue to expand our product line, and would appreciate your suggestions.

Initially we focused on two ideas with our product selections:

1. The most frequent fundraising buyers are adult females - moms, grandmas, aunts, neighbors. So we are offering lots of jewelry, fashion accessories, candles, lotions, kitchen and home decor items.

2. The hardest-to-buy-for gift recipients are adult males - dad, father-in-law, teenage nephews. So we included guy gifts like Phiten baseball necklaces, wildlife themed travel mugs / thermoses / watches, some movies and a few gadgets. The "guy gifts" were mostly chosen by my 25-yr-old son and my husband.

But we would love to hear your ideas for items that would sell to YOUR fundraising target market!

Any other members who would like to suggest additional products, please check out the store at:

GoodSportGiftShop.com

Thanks,

Julie

Also, to answer the question a few people have asked me:

Yes, you can simply shop without signing up for a fundraiser. Just type "HS Baseball Web" in a comment on the checkout screen, so we won't wonder whose fundraiser to credit. The fundraising commission on those orders will go toward supporting the HS Baseball Web. Smile

GoodSportGiftShop.com

Thanks!

Good luck with this Julie, it seems like a great idea.

Note to fellow posters, given the benefit this Forum provides to the entire country of US High Schoolers and the fact that the host family still has to go into their own pocket to fund it:

CAN WE ALL AGREE TO REMIND ANY COMMERCIAL POSTER THAT A MINIMUM DONATION OF PERHAPS $25 FOR THEIR POST WOULD NOT BE ASKING TOO MUCH?????? And if they don't donate their post should be removed. Too radical? Perhaps, but the risk of someday this site disappearing because it can't sustain itself would leave a black hole.

And to know that they did donate perhaps some type of indication by them of their donation is in order?

I'm thinking of those Bat company posts, clinic posts, travel team players wanted posts maybe. They would have to pay far more for the targeted advertising that this site provides.

Just sayin ......

BaseballMom10,

Yes, the fundraiser can definitely be done as a team.

We focused first on the option for the individual player because we received questions from parents and players like "How can I raise money to cover the cost of going to a showcase?". There are some fundraising options for teams already, but we couldn't find many for just one player.

But teams can definitely sign up, and we will provide info and resources for them to publicize their fundraiser on their website, Facebook, Twitter and emails.

Thanks!
