There is an excellent discussion in the recruiting forum on how youtube videos are helping kids get recruited. It seems to make sense. If all a coach has to do is open an e-mail and click on a youtube link, well you have taken much of the work out of it for them...

How about the experts out there providing some tips on:

1) How do you create a youtube video
2) How do you post the link to youtube video in e-mail (I think most people know but just in case)
3) How can you jazz up a youtube video?

Some of my thoughts....

When filming, film behind a radar gun and show readings after pitches.... Could be done for hitters as well to give a coach a sense for what type of pitching competition a kid is facing.

When hitting, if it is a pitcher of note, say who it is (e.g., this pitcher is the 53rd ranked pitcher in the nation by Perfect Game), Same with pitching when doing well against top hitters.

Show front, side, and behind angles for pitchers and hitters.

Make the videos brief and to the point.

For those of you that have actually had recruiting success with this technique, please post your youtube links so we can see your players. Also, please post your recruiting stories and how the youtube was part of your successful recruiting strategy.

Juniors video was hosted by Google. The advantage to Google hosting (maybe this has changed since we did it), is that if you have a website for Junior, you can embed the video player into Juniors website and the Google hosted video will play inside your website without the viewer having to leave like you do with youtube.

Juniors Pitching Video

Coaches that viewed Juniors video had two remarks.

1. "It's obvious his arm works very well"
2. "Seeing the batters reactions is important"

Although like CD said, I would have liked to have included side views and radar gun readings, not having them weren't deal breakers. The most important thing the video should do is generate enough interest that the coach wants to see you perform in person.

With my son being the proverbial "late bloomer", electronic delivery (website) was the best thing we did. Coaches who had interest could go there and check up to date stats, there was a calander with games & showcases listed (also hosted by Google) that would actually give the address of the event along with directions.

Unless you're a top prospect that has the doors being kicked in, in my mind, a website kept current, with pertinent information and video is your best recruiting tool. Building one doesn't have to be expensive or overwhelming. CD's advice to "keep it brief", is as applicible to the whole website as it is to the video. No one wants to know Juniors life story, they just want to know if Junior can play.

CPLZ - good stuff! I know when I saw your son's video for the first time a few years ago I was highly impressed and was convinced he was a D1 talent. I have since been proven right by that assessment Smile

I think you inadvertantly linked to Kirk Porter the football player. Here is the link to the baseball player:
