NCAA South Region Update: North Carolina Wesleyan defeated Bridgewater 7 to 5. The game resumed this morning. VWC vs. Bridgewater today at 1 p.m. The winner plays again in the 4 p.m. contest. As far as lights, you read me right, there are no lights at NCWC for the region tournament. I believe, and it is consistant with how long it took the NCAA to announce the venue, that no one stepped up to put a bid into host the South Region. Nearing the dead line NCWC stepped up to be the host. I...

Gold glove, My brother, Ben Simon, is a captain at Tufts. He is a pitcher there. I won't speak much about it academically, because the NESCACs are all top notch schools. Tufts is particularly strong in political science, engineering, and sciences. As for baseball, Ben has had an interesting 3 years. He was thrown into the weekend rotation as a freshman, and was the #1 as a sophomore and a junior. Coach Casey is an extremely intense man. It is well known in the area that people either love...

Re: Info on top New England Schools

Not sure why, but Wesleyan has not been nearly as good as they were in the 90s lately. They have a young coach who is an alum, and he's had some decent recruiting classes, but he it hasn't translated into more wins, especially in the Little 3 rivalry. Wesleyan is a great school, but you should know that is, by far, the most liberal student bodies of the NESCAC. Some like this whereas some don't.

A great school and honestly the whole process fascinates me. I looked at Williams as well along with some other NE schools (Haverford, Wesleyan, Trinity, JH) but in the end a mixture of preference and overwhelming scholarship led me to Rhodes. I think many get to a point where they can't make a wrong decision, I certainly felt that I was in that situation.

I'll be a bit different here, and I have a bias. If your son becomes interested in D III's, Virginia has a number of excellent schools with very good baseball programs. My bias is where my sons attended, Christopher Newport University. Academically, the incoming freshman class SAT/GPA ranks only below UVA and William and Mary in the state, and we have lots of great schools. Baseball-wise, a very good program, a coach we thought the world of, with facilities very few D III's can match. It's...

The field is down in a valley with a fence that is a challenge for homeruns. Good for pitcher's. As mentioned....a beautiful location but small school on a hill. West Virginia State usually dominates the conference. Teams in that conference that compete for players are D & E, Fairmont State, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan.
