W&L is usually very competitive in the ODAC. Top notch education that will cost you top notch dollars. Great facility...certainly one that many D1 schools would like to have. Very "preppie" in atmosphere and usually shows up in the rankings of top party schools.

VWC is perennially a top D3 team in our region. Very near the beach so weather is rarely an issue. I do not know much about academics there, but the coach is very well-respected. In my one visit there following my son's team, I was disappointed in the bland facilities. VWC won the D3 hoops title a couple years back.

Guilford is the Quaker-founded school in a nice section of Greensboro. Baseball has been down the past couple of years as they have struggled since the coaching change. Facility is so-so with a short porch...and wind generally blowing out. Very nice compact campus. Outstanding in basketball the past couple of years.

Of course, if you are looking at an ODAC school that offers the best of both worlds (outside of the hoops program), I could think of no better place than Lynchburg College Smile
I had friends attend both years ago and they were great guys, now there sons are soon to attend and equally well respected.I am surprised that your son has noticed a difference in the student body?I would go with the one that has A/C,that seems to be a premium at these schools.I would equally ask where he wants to be when he graduates, may be they have never heard of these schools and his future applications will be submitted to those that attended some crazy place like Harvard? How about Bucknell ?Don't they have a good baseball/education program?
Holden, my son is a freshman at W&L. everything that has been said appears to be true (not too keen on the party aspect though). Coach Stickley is a great guy, the facility is better than most mid-tier D1 in the NE. very hard to gain admission and coaching staff can't really help you there. SO far he really likes the campus, academics, coaching staff and team mates. Good luck.
My son ended up settling at NCWC but we looked at many ODAC, CAC, USA South and CIAA Schools. W&L was astronomically expensive along with VWC...$34K+...We are apying at about $16K at NCWC and accademically and athletic it's been a fantastic experience...and Coach Long is excellent with the kids. What position does he play?
Ken,
it's sticker price. After finance help, would depend on how much you make, etc. Virginia Wesleyan is about 5 minutes from me and I watch many games there during the season. They also have a great showcase that my son went to 3 years before getting picked up by NCWC. I did not get a chance to visit W&L and Guilford was just too far away. VWC's facilities are very nice and coach Boothe runs a tight ship...The only drawback we saw is that the rosters are 40-50 players with no JV...just too many guys on a roster I think.
