I am getting Navied, and Air Forced, and Bolted out. Please be mindful that this site is not all about your kids and their programs. It would be wonderful if just one time you showed some genuine interest in somebody elses kid or program. By that, I don't mean posting someone elses kid's name who has been cut.

The site is based upon give and take. It gets old when it seems like it is all take.

Copy that, Homerun04!

Perhaps AcademyDad's error was not posting it in the College Reporting thread that CD started.

Danny - no need to be confused. Since you seem to be enjoying this, I'll spell it out. I expressed my opinion above and I am standing by it. AcademyDad responded by deleting two threads and modifying the titles and content of two others including this one. It gave the appearance that the moderators were doing it all. Another moderator closed this thread (not at my behest) but since there has been some disatisfaction with that decision, I have reopened the topic so people can continue to vent.
I am completely supportive of the views CD expressed and will publicly comment on my PM's.
If we look, we find CD started both the high school and college reporting thread.
Quite clearly, CD is very supportive of having a section on the board where parents can talk about what is happening with their son's.
Where I think folks are missing the point of CD's post and my PM's is when folks not only post in the high school and college thread, they also post the same of nearly the same information in other sections of the site, including the General items forum.
Why is that needed? I have my views on the "why,"
But the real point made by CD with which I completely agree is posting about your son, being silent about others, and then providing a link to players in the Phillies organization so the names of released players could be accessed.
Maybe there was a good explanation for that post but I, for one, fail to understand what it could be.
For 95% of the players who were released, their career is over.
Why does that need to be shared while rejoicing in posts about successes of your son?

As we all know, baseball is a game of failure.

When players have the occasional success and their supporters want to shout it from the rooftops, why not share in their joy rather than chastise them?

If the joy of others causes you disdain or annoyance, then something is bothering you that has nothing to do with the actual complaint.

Not always. The Ohio Valley plays one 9-inning game and one 7-inning game on Saturdays..

I don't remember what the Patriot League does..

The Patriot League is just as you have stated, one 7 and one 9 inning game each Sat & Sun of League play.

Thanks for your post, infielddad.

Here is how I see the problem now. There is a lot of discussion about a certain poster's one-sidedness or other non-conforming behavior going on in the underground of HSBBW PMs. I'm guilty of that as well.

The problem is that you have figured among your selves that so-and-so is basically undesirable. Now when so-and-so posts something that has marginally struck the raw nerve that you have been discussing underground, action is taken. The unknowing rest of the HSBBW may not be aware of the bad behavior that those in the underground have become familiar with. Hence the reaction we have seen this weekend.

CD stated that he had had enough of the USAFA, USNA, and Bolt threads. It seemed more like a personal issue at the time than a "protective" move for the good of the site. When it was locked, I immediately and incorrectly assumed he was the one who did it. Maybe if I had the "insight" of the underground, I would have reacted differently.

I support Dan's opinion entirely. I PM'd him this morning to tell him that. Then it occurred to me....I think CD speaks for MORE of us than we would admit publicly. So...I'm gonna do it publicly.

I have to tell you, when that link was posted about the guys who were cut from the Phillies org. it REALLY struck a chord with me. My son had JUST "retired" from the Phillies and I knew ALOT of them. And I'll continue to be honest..had my son NOT "retired"...I am pretty darn sure HIS name would have been on that list. I had to wonder how would I have felt signing on to the HSBB site and seeing that someone posted a link to a list that showed my son's dreams crashing down? Yes, it is public info. ANYONE can access it...but WHAT WAS THE POINT of posting it on this site? Why did we need to know WHO'S dreams just crashed and burned? And I have to wonder...would Academy Dad have posted that link if HIS son was on it? I don't know the answer to that right now...but MAYBE in the future when it DOES happen...the answer will be given. It just showed no purpose at all to me...especially when following it up with a link to an article about his son's accomplishments? What's the point?

Quincy, I think your post provides the answer.
Baseball is a game of failure and this is a baseball site. If our site is to truly reflect what happens in baseball, then the postings should be about success and failure. It should be about our son's experiences in baseball and as players.
Often times, I learn far more from posts like those of Orlando, FrankF, luvbb and a wonderful post by JMoff in the high school reporting thread.
Read JMoff's post. That is really posting about baseball and the game our son's play.
We also know success in baseball is measured over the long term, not one AB, one game, one week.
To me, this site has always been about learning.
One thing I have learned is that shouting from the rooftops about a great day on the field isn't reflective of baseball because there is always a game tomorrow.

infidel08,
before we get too much disinformation, let's be straight and above board.
I don't make any judgments on who is or is not desirable as a poster.
But I certainly can have opinions about posts.
As it relates to this thread, I sent one PM related to the post about players being released by the Phillies and linking to them.
I have seen, first hand, how crushing it is on kids when they are released. I have seen the impact on their friends and teammates when it happens.
That was one reason I started a thread linking the BA article on how hard it is for players.
That was a reason I posted in what is now a Golden Thread about this aspect of baseball.
In my eyes, that day when the player knows his career is over is so tough, so hard, so filled with anguish.
I didn't and don't understand why that link was needed when someone is also posting and celebrating about their son.
I don't get that and surely never will.
To say I decided or helped decide who is or is not desirable as a poster isn't accurate.
I expressed privately what I am now expressing publicly about the post I found quite disappointing.

I have never read such mindless dribble !

As one who has read a good deal of mindless drivel here, I respectfully disagree. This thread was moderated publicly, and then altered privately by the original poster. Sometimes it happens the other way around.
You'd probably see my bet that there's more here than meets the eye BHD. Using this thread as an example of why you don't choose to post here anymore is just opportunistic and tells me that you weren't really attentive to the whole issue.

So you continue to allow yourself to be subjected to these views? Have you no self control to just leave? That seems very odd to me.

Infielddad,

How did AcademyDad respond to your PM? If I receive notice that I'm out of line I will delete, modify, or clarify my position in the subject thread.

Like I said, there was more to the thread closure than I was aware of. The moderator who closed it didn't explain the reason and it appeared to be something else.

Now, what was this thread about????

I just have to say that "exempliFRIES" will be my new word of the week. Definition: "It's a good example of what really FRIES me!"

Secondly, if I'm not mistaken, this website has always been a personal domain of the personal person who personally pays the bill. That's the person who gets to have the final say about the who, what, where, when and why of the HSBBW. So, I would suggest you get over your outrage about that and move on, if the spirit so moves you.

The rest of us are just guests here, and some of the guests get asked to be bouncers. You can choose to have fun at the party or you can choose to leave. Pretty darn simple.

The funny part is the people who threaten the loudest to leave never do.

Ok, I confess, I closed the topic, and there was NO prior discussion with anyone as to why at 1-2am in the morning. After the original post was altered, I thought it made no sense for it to continue, and I did explain my reasons in a pm. I don't necessarily agree with it being reopened, but I do understand why.

I avoided posting that it was me, mainly to avoid any personal attack. I didn't do it to protect anyone and would not have done so if it wasn't altered, by the original poster. It had nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, my personal opinions on what was said doesn't matter, and if so, it is my perogative as well as anyone else's to share their thoughts with anyone on the board or "underground". I think that CD explained himself and IMO, he is entitled to his opinion, just like we all are.
We don't always post the right things here, we don't always know who we might offend or hurt, it happens, sometimes we just lose it, sometimes we are so wrapped up in our own little bubble, it's happened to all of us. This has been a tough week for many of my friends, my sons friends. Yes, life goes on, but for a few days I have tried to be sensitive of those I knew were hurting. My son had a really good week, in fact he had a great week, but I kept it "underground". I thought that was the right thing to do.

The reason I post the above, is because it was once pointed out to me by someone that I did that, so I learned from my mistake.

BHD,
I agree with Spiz's post. I have seen you for many years speak about your son, and that is fine, but never once ever give kudos or showed compassion to anyone elses, except players that you are familiar with. Yes, I may have spoken about my son alot, but I will always try to find info on one of our players son's and post it, or always try to comment in posts about what SOMEONE else's son did, including announcements for signings, commitments. That to me is what this place is all about.
Before you go attacking me, as an example, I remember when your son pitched in his first college game, I announced it.
I don't ever remember you saying one kind thing to me or anyone else about their player.

Spizz,

At times I think someone should follow me around with a mop and bucket I spew so much drivel. This is of course assuming drivel is aqueous and low viscosity, because if I am wrong, it could be a broom and dustpan, or depending on consistency, a rake and pooper scooper.

See, even talking drivel brings with it, its own set of defining issues and complications.

One thing no one can accuse me of though, is being sequestered, which to some, is bad news. Big Grin
TPM, In the interest of accuracy, I have read "many" posts by bobbleheaddoll where he bragged about lots of different players and by name. I even remember discussing these players like Joey Votto, Nick Weglarz and many others right here on the HSBBW. What would be much harder for anyone to remember is when he ever mentioned his own son by name. I would bet that most who participate here could not tell you who BHD's son is or where he goes to college.

I often wish I could have shown much more pride in my kids when they played. Not for any reason other than it might have meant a lot to them. I think some don't realize how certain posts appear to others. I do know that I'd much rather read about someone's pride in their son's accomplishments, than the many posters that think they have everything all figured out. There are many things posted on this site that I'd like to make a smart azz comment about. Once in awhile I even do. Doesn't the blatant taking advantage of using the site for free advertising bother anyone?

Anyway the best thing about this site is hearing what people have to say. It's interesting following all the kids who are mentioned. Whether it's Zach Duke or a young kid just getting started… it’s all good. If anyone who has spent much time on this site and can say they have never learned anything… They do not belong here!

Nothing to brag about, but I actually do know quite a bit about baseball… Been beaten into my head over many years. Still I have learned so much by reading what others have posted on this site. Even some things far beyond baseball stuff.

Perhaps what AcademyDad posts from time to time aggravates some people because they see it as bragging. I would be willing to bet that he had no intention of belittling anyone when he posted that link to the Phillies releases. But seeing that he did post that… the next question would be who went and read the list of released players? If this was done to somehow belittle those players, that would be wrong. I really don’t believe that was the case, at all.

BTW, anytime someone wants to get a good read on a poster, all you have to do is go look at their past posts. It gives a person a good perspective of that poster. I think if people looked at all the past posts made by AcademyDad they would find out that he is definitely proud of his sons and actually does mention the service academies a lot. He is one who has nothing to sell. He is proud and just like many others on here… he should be! I certainly hope that AcademyDad sticks around here. The next thread that starts from a parent or young player wanting info about baseball and the Naval Academy or the Air Force Academy… I hope he is still around to help them along with the others here who have son’s who have experienced that.

If anyone cares to see what AcademyDad has posted on many other subjects… Here’s one, check out the link below and the link within that post.

You tell me. Not sure what your system actually is.
Who have you actually congratulated, like to hear them speak up, then I will admit I am wrong.

Have even see you go as far as placing blame on others when things didn't go right. Somehow that does tell me alot about people.

Yes PG I mentioned that , but IMO lot of that was self serving. You don't have to mention your son by name, it's not too hard to figure out.

JMO and how I perceive it.

I wouldn't have gotten into it, but his post was so unnecessary.

You get back what you give out, sisn't someone mention that?

I understand all points of view that have been shared but what bothers me is that AD is being chastised for congratulaing his sons teammate..this thread was not about his son .....

I realize that we have some highly respected posters on both sides of this issue but I am afraid that a concern over another thread (Phillies) has spilled over to this thread so for those of us that don't read every thread it was quite confusing.

I understand why there were hurt feelings over the Phillies releases but maybe the issue should have been addressed and resolved there (and maybe it was, I didn' read it) instead of spilling over to this thread.

I have learned from many of Academy Dad's posts and I hope he sticks around.
