Tom,

What a great day. It was 10 years ago for us and I still remember what I was doing, the words coming through the computer, the happiness for our son, and his college coach walking through the door shortly after with a Blue Jays hat.

Get ready for a whirlwind over the next several days but enjoy today like not many others in baseball. Your son and your family deserve to enjoy!

Thanks for sharing.

Congratulation to Thomas - I am so happy that he gets his shot.  Adam always said he had the goods when he caught him in High School.  One more Alonso HS Raven to follow in MILB! That makes every starter but one from Adam's years behind the plate to now be in pro ball.  Adam as Sophomore - Alex Panteliodis/Tommy Toledo; Adam as Junior - Alex Panteliodis/Thomas Dorminy/Ray Delphey (drafted but did not sign, out due to arm injury); Adam as Senior - Thomas Dorminy/Jose Fernandez/Ray.

What a crop of arms during that time!

I guess the moral of the story is don’t train to be a 2B,  be a RHP!!

I couldn't be happier for everyone whose son was drafted.  We've had that experience and its awesome!

Our younger son, while college junior eligible, was not drafted.  I'd be lying if I said he (and we) weren't at least a little disappointed.  He's coming off a junior year in the Pac12 with an 11-2 record, 1.60 ERA, very few walks.  2nd team All American by CBN, 1 of 21 Golden Spikes semi-finalists and a Gregg Olson Award finalist.  Kendall Rogers and Aaron Fitt both have written really nice stuff about him over the course of the season.  He's what you might call a 'precision pitcher.'

So why wasn't he drafted?  Answer is pretty easy.  5-10, mid-80's RHP.  Yes, velocity and size matter in things like this.  Its a fact we are well aware of.  I was probably more perplexed by some other players I watched this past weekend not getting drafted.  Sikes Orvis (Ole Miss), John Hochstatter (Stanford) and Preston Morrison (TCU) - 2-time B12 Pitcher of the year and man-oh-man, his low/mid 80s stuff is freakin' nasty!

Good...no...make that GREAT news is that our son is on track to graduate (probably a quarter early) and we can all enjoy another son's (hopefully) great college senior season!

Its all good.
