I've played 3B up to my junior year (Freshmen and 2 years of JV). It's now summer ball, and I'm playing on a team with mostly varsity kids..9 varsity players, 1 college kid, and 3 jv kids..and I'm playing a little bit of second. I know baseball so I know the basics of every position, but I struggle turning a double play. I think my footwork's pretty good, but I struggle on the transfer. Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of the ball better or even suggestions on proper footwork? Thanks.

To develop a good transfer will take some time and probably it is not going to work righ away. I am sure that untill you learn how to have a real good transfer, your throws to first will be weaker and out of line. Something that can help Righ know is the way to step over the base in order to finish the with the proper food ready to throw with all your arm strengh, that way, even your transfer is not that fast, the total time from the infielder to second to first will be almost the same.

Being a MIF in college, I will give you some advice that may help you out.

Always square up and face the direction the ball is coming to you. Keep your hands close together, relaxed and in front of you. I prefer fingers pointed out rather than up and try to deflect the ball rather than catch it. Lastly, don't let your hands drop below your waist when making the transfer and throw. Those are some basics. Hope that helps a little. Just keep practicing.
