Here it is.....seems like a very short time ago we were all looking forward to the start of the season. Some teams have done well as expected, some better and of course some who have not played as expected. Now is the time to finish the job if you have been playing well all year, or maybe get some redemption if you have not played up to expectations. My question to all of you......are there any teams that have not had a great year but are poised to make some noise? Or maybe a team that is in a spot where they can pull off an upset behind a dominating pitcher?

Is pre-season #1 Sandburg ready to put it together and put aside the early season problems? Or is the PBR's #1 Benet ready to run the table? Is LT the one? Maybe a team like Hinsdale Central or OPRF can make some noise even thought they have been laying low the second half of the season. Maybe another Catholic School besides Benet will take advantage of their ability to recruit and win....

Maybe Stevenson will realize their potential this year, or Naperville Central with their very talented team will be the one. Watch out for sleeper Elk Grove, carrying the MSL banner as their best contender. No one is talking about the Fox Valley Conference this year....will one of those teams sneak up and grab it?

OR......maybe a "downstate" team will grab it. Most Chicago area teams have no idea of what lurks outside our area. It could be that the winner will be a team that none of us talk about.

My Picks for the elite 8: (with just a little bias...and a few upsets)

Lyons Township
Naperville Central
Oak Forest
Bartonville Limestone
Elk Grove
New Trier
Springfield Sacred Heart
Barrington

Let's have it.....make your elite 8 predictions.

To me it depends on the goal of the team. IMHO if you want to win the state you should stay in rotation because if the team feels like they can only win with their #1 on the bump they are in big trouble. And if you burn out that #1 arm what good will it do? To win the state you have to have confidence in at least 4 pitchers.

Now if your goals are just to make it to the Elite 8 or win a sectional you might as well go for it. It would be a shame to leave the ace on the side.
The big teams in my opinion that are out of the tournament in my opinion are Joliet Catholic Academy, Benet Academy, Nazareth Academy, Stevenson, Maine South, Morton, and maybe even Champaign Central who was a good team we played in the begining of the year who was ranked number 1 in their sectional...look out for either Elk Grove or Prospect to head to state now with Stevenson losing.....
I didn't do so well ... I got Limestone and O'Fallon correct ... had JCA winning it all and Mount Carmel in the title game. ... If there was a person other than the coach who could've predicted St. Pats, I want to hire him/her.

Basically, I took a beating. Nevertheless, this weekend will be very interesting. Good luck to all involved.

You play who you can play around here (St. Louis Metro Area) They have played some St. Louis schools, the top programs in the Springfield area, and have gone as far north as Quincy and Normal. They have taken on some of the top Class A programs in the state including Wesclin which just placed 2nd in Class A and have only played 5 Class A programs total. They play in the Southwestern Conference which is a tremendous baseball conference. About the only program "not up to par" would be my program. If you look at that schedule posted, you'll see they beat us 3 times. That time old adage of not playing someone is relative to where you are. I would think that most of the posters from up north think that we (my team as well as our area) don't play anyone. Of course, some posters from up North know baseball in this state and recognize that you can find quality competition everywhere in this state. JMHO!
