This wouldn't be the first time a school from downstate came up and whipped some Chicago-Area butt.
The only thing I picked up on with their stats was that of 365 runs they scored, only 2 were unearned. That is pretty hard to believe. The scorekeeping that allowed that to happen probably scored reached on errors as hits, etc. Shades of Lockport, huh?
Either way they scored 10 runs a game which is not easy to do. That game between O'Fallon and LT could be quite good.
Last year the Legion Team from Murphysboro came up and won the State Championship. They had no shortage of good hitters, better than most I saw around here all season long. It wouldn't be a shock either way with O'Fallon.
Coach, I did not intend to slight anybody. I was thinking about if it was a down year for the area and if they scheduled tough or easy non-conference opponents. And your team was definitely up to par.
SuburbanFan, I didn't take it as a slight. I apologize if my response sounded like I did. We (My program) understands why there are questions about our level of play. That is why we play a couple of tremendous programs from your area in Tinley Park Andrew with Coach Ganzer and Coach Czar's program at Oak Forest. It lets us know what we need to do to get better. Coach Portz also understands and has really scheduled far and wide so that he can play outstanding competition. Naturally, due to the nature of conferences, you always have a couple of teams that can have down years. You also run into teams out of pitching and, at times, pad your stats. That's the nature of the game. Heck, we've run into the same. I would love to be able to be there tomorrow to see such a fine team/program like LT play O'Fallon. I think the key is "PROGRAM." When you run into "PROGRAMS" the quality of ball is so much better. JMHO!
Does anybody know what the contingencies are in case it rains on Saturday? It is up to a 50% chance of rain for Saturday but tomorrow looks good.
Suburban Fan -- I don't remember the exact circumstances, but in 1999 I believe rain on Friday pushed everything back. St. Charles won the title on a Monday. If rain wipes out Saturday I assume they'd do the same thing again.
Talk about a letdown -- after winning the state title the St. Charles underclassmen played a summer league game later that same afternoon!
Here's a question: If semifinals, etc. get pushed back to Monday does anyone bring back Friday's starter on two days rest? Tempting, but dangerous.
