DBAT 18 lost to a solid Frozen Ropes team tonight -- no excuses, just a loss.

With no disrespect to anyone, it should be noted (for those that were not in attendance) that the Mustangs won their semi-final game by run-rule. It seems obvious to all that the 'Stangs did not care to play a game on Father's Day, especially when they are already hosting the Regional tournament. I have great respect for the guys in the tri-colored caps, but I think it's a pretty weak way to bow out of a tournament ---- an intentional forfeit ---- it doesn't happen too often.

Cool

As I said...*cough*

PD, i highly doubt Sam Carpenter would intentionally forfeit so another team could advance. That sounds absolutely rediculous. He simply made a mistake and he admitted that he made a mistake. I have great respect for Sam. The Marshal's 17 really have made a great run since losing their first game of the tournament. Best of luck to them in the championship. And yes, the Frozen Ropes are extremely solid. They are very well coached. Should be a great game!

O and I'm sure the Stangs "forfeited" so that they wouldn't play on father's day, give me a break Big Grin
AS#1 -- I have great respect for Sam too. He has been coaching the Mustangs since when -- 1932? He knew the rules and he has two very good coaches that knew the rules -- and the pitcher throwing for the 3rd consecutive day probably knew the rules. I don't really have a problem with what they did -- they played six games in the tourney against strong competition -- let's just not act like it was a mistake. And I think there must have been a better way to get the same result. That's all.

No real harm done, except the AABC regional tournament could have a team there that was handed a gift. It doesn't take anything away from the Mustangs and it certainly isn't the Marshals fault.

all state - the automatic berth has been debated every year since I have been reading the boards....it is what it is...

Wasn't it last year that DM-Carpenter were criticized for not playing in the tournament they hosted (since they had the automatic berth)? Now they participate and they get criticized. Oh well, .... Happy Father's Day to all, it does sound like a good day to take the day off. Wink

The 1st DBAT/DM game was 14-3 -- a butt-kickin' none-the-less. And, although I hate when PS III's team loses, I'm happy to be sitting in my family room this morning, rather than in the sun at UTA. Cool

cheapseats is right (as usual) -- IMO, the DM18 should play in the tournament.....and win it if they are the last ones to lose twice. Wink

I want it to be clear -- no one from the evil blue is upset -- this isn't a huge deal to anyone. It's just a "fun" spin to a good half-week of baseball.

If you have a chance to see some of these teams play this summer -- there are some really special kids out there, preparing for the next level. And I can't wait to follow players like Matt Thompson, Mike Choice, Bobby Bundy, Ryan Ford, and others as they play the game in the future.

The Mustangs do not get an automatice birth to the Regional; the Long Star League as host of the CM Regional gets an automatice birth from that league. Now who they send is another question. BBI gets an automatice birth since they are hosting the MM Regional as well.

Give the benefit of the doubt, a mistake was made.

SWAC,

You make me sick.

Sam has been participating in AABC events before you even knew what baseball was in this area.

Now, Cade makes you his cabana boy and you think you know the people and the game.

I wasn't there and can't comment on the facts. But I know for a fact that Sam knows every rule in the AABC book.

Here's my take........

Lone Star get's an automatic birth right?

So Sam figures he can win the qualifier with his #1 team and let his #2 team in with his Lone Star bid.

This way he gets two teams in.

If he sends his #2 team to the qualifier, they have less of a chance to win and will more than likely lose their birth chance to the #1 Mustang team in the Lone Star League standings.

I really don't know Sam that well as a person so I can't comment on his decisions. But I'd bet the house that he knows the rule book backwards and forwards.

The fact of the matter is, you wouldn't have these problems if there were no automatic births and no qualifiers. Take the game back to the way it's supposed to be........

You win your league, you advance.

You win State, you advance.

You win Regional, you advance.

You win Regional, your going to the CMWS.

All this other **** is just a way for organizations to field more teams to put more cash in their pocket book.

Ken -- the only hole in your logic is -- this was his #1 team and they did not qualify for the regional based on this event (since they forfeited). So, his team's path to the AABC regional comes from the Lone Star autobid. His other teams, and all teams other than the Marshals(H) or Frozen Ropes(A), will have to win state torunaments ---- which I agree is a fair path. In my opinion, AABC remains the purest form of select tournament baseball.

But -- this discussion is enlightening to a degree -- as I didn't know until now that the LS winner is the regional host (i.e. not a predetermined thing). This fact clarifies a few things. This mistake was genius. Cool

I'm out, this thread is getting HOT!

Red Face

Congrats to Frozen Ropes.

Those guys out of McKinney are starting to make some noise this summer. Frozen Ropes 16 are playing in the championship game today against DBAT 16 for the MM Regional Qualifier. FR 16 have beaten Giants, DBAT 16, Panthers and Pats 16 to get there.

Frozen Ropes 16 are coached by a couple of guys named Florence and Thornton..... Smile

GM,
Agreed. FR does a nice job at all ages.

Taking a page from SWAC, Marshals 16U team playing Austin Slam in championship game of the 30+ team South Texas Sliders Tournament in San Antonio at 3pm...Is McKinney now the hotbed of summer baseball?....Kidding folks. Its a long summer and there is a lot more baseball to play!
