No, it is still incredibly tough on him...yet he survives.

As an example...he, along with all freshman baseball players, were required to take 22hrs. of courses spring semester, in season, with no electives.

My younger boy is a freshman at West Point, and he is going there precisely for the academics and the fantastic opportunities a career as a military officer provides. What CPLZ says about the baseball players and the tough curriculum may sound surprising to some but not to me. These are special, unique young men capable of anything.

Wow, that is an incredible amount of units during season. What was the reason for that?

Freshman year at West Point is designed to show each individual how much they can take, and still perform at a high level. Athletes are not given any considerations, they are expected to maintain and achieve the same as non athlete cadets.
I am going to jump into this even though, unlike most poople, the older I get I fell I know less.

Consider this. If you play baseball for a top notch college team, people will presume that you are a better play that the person who plays for a lesser school or in a lesser division.

The same thinking is true in academia.

I know people who want to know where their physician, lawyer or other professional went to school.

I also know that my brother did not graduate from college and he makes way more than me (and it's legal).

It used to be that a college degree was special. That's not the case now, athough our economy may reverse that. Students are more selective, and we are more like consumers when we select colleges.

This is just what I think. When you are really good at baseball, and you know when that's the case, you start to play professionally as soon as you can. The rest of us are playing just to play until someone says your time is up.

This may be true, but I don't recall ever wanting to know where any professionals (doctors, lawyers, officers..etc...) went to school. Maybe a drinking buddy who was a former athlete and I may have had that discussion....well, my wife and I traded that info once. Smile
