Wow, all I can say is Thanks, PG and everyone. We just got back last night and in between jet lag and heading off to work this morning I can't be very profound here, but.. credit goes to my son, not me. He's a bright kid, a quiet kid, who has had the benefit of learning from a lot of good coaches over the years. (Special thanks to Jeff Simmelink of the Spokane Dodgers.)

I understand what PG is saying about looking young. He does. Rusty and I have had many conversations about his size. He used to say it bothered him. (Now he smiles when he thinks he's underestimated.) I just tell him, well, you'll just have to be the best d*** short lefty around!

Thanks again, everyone.. I'll plug back into here shortly. Smile
Hi, guys, I just got home and I'd thought I'd tell you about our experience at the World Showcase. We didn't decide to do the showcase until it was almost too late but something inside me said he (Rusty) just had to be there. It's 3,200 miles for us, and a major flight delay resulted in us getting to our hotel room at almost 2:00 AM Saturday morning, the first day of the event. The next day, when PG asked if Rusty could wait until Sunday to pitch, I was relieved! He had a good night's rest and had a good performance.

I saw Cosart pitch and his arm speed was unreal. A little tweaking of his mechanics (don't get me wrong they're already good!) and I'd bet he'd be throwing 100+ from the hill, too. Another kid, Jandy Sena was definitely impressive. He's huge and throws gas! There were so many scouts behind home plate when he pitched I felt sorry for the pitchers on the other fields. But my favorite kid to watch was the 2B.. I think his name was Rolando Gomez??.. he was so fluid it was beautiful!

The comments PG has made about my son have made me really swell with pride today. I am very thankful that he took the time to give me his perspective on my son. Like most fathers, I want to know he's on the right track. Over the past few years, I've authored a few threads on velocity averages (maybe even obsessed about velocity a bit) but Rusty himself has never lost sight of the art of pitching. And it starts with love of the game.
thanks again, Jerry.

Finally, for those of you who are considering a showcase but feel it's too much money or perhaps your son is not tall enough, please reconsider. At events like PG you see what's out there, test your son's competitive level against the best, and have memories that last a lifetime. As for size, that is something you can't control anyway so disregard it.

Thanks, everyone.
