Per the DMN website....(I know this was posted elsewhere too but thought it might be helpful to post here as well):

Irving pitcher Blake Beavan, Duncanville outfielder Joseph Leftridge and Plano Prestonwood catcher Cameron Rupp will play for the West team in Saturday’s Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic in San Diego.

The game will be televised live at 2 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.

When my son was 14, we played in the very first Elite 16 tournament in Orlando, Florida at Disney World. Robert Stock played for a California team and he pitched against us. He was throwing 92 on a gun that day. Later that same month, I heard he hit 94 when he made the Youth National team.

I wasn't real impressed with his catching skills today, and I didn't get to see him throw from the bump, but that dinger was AMAZING!! It looked like he barely swung, too!

Fun to see kids on TV that my son has had the opportunity to play against.

KD,

I know what you mean.......my son played against 3 of the guys in the game today.

Robert Stock from California (threw 92 at age 14 against us)
Neil Ramirez from Virginia (threw 95 last year in the Jr. Olympics against us at age 16)
The kid from Duncanville (not sure of his name!)
cheapseats -- you're exactly right -- I made the same comment to PantherMom yesterday as we watched the game. I'm especially glad Cam is at PCA ---- for our church-school and to avoid his at bats against Plano East each spring. Smile

I thought the game was sloppy (as it was last year). Of course, that's a bit like watching Miss America and criticizing the contestants for having fake.....smiles. Smile It was fun to watch great talent and especially fun to see several kids from Texas. I was glad to be able to see Robert Stock for the first time --- he is legendary as a 16 year old! Robert's brother was a member of the Trombly Cubs in McKinney last week.

Congratulations to Cam and Joe and Blake --- what an accomplishment!

Main also gave up a fly to the wall in LF that was well hit but truly should've been caught. It was scored a double, I think. They could've gotten him out of that inning a lot sooner, had they made ordinary plays, before his pitch count for the inning got way high and he started to lose some steam.

Generally I thought the fielding was pretty shoddy, but it appeared that several guys may have been playing out of position to get their bats into the lineups.

No need to worry, thousands of scouts were there for the "exposure". Roll Eyes Big Grin

Again folks, individual events such as this do not showcase the great game as it should be.

It is saying something for those players to be mentioned with the other great talents across the country, but don't expect the play to be pretty.

I know Andy and Jerry Ford have alot to do with the AFLAC event and it is first class, just not first class baseball. Smile
I was disappointed there was no coverage of Rupp's HR derby feat in today's Dallas Morning News. There was a blip on Wednesday about the three metroplex players participating so I thought there might be some follow-up....

There was room for a 2 page article in Section A detailing how Kenny Trout's 11 yr. old AAU basketball team travels in style.... Roll Eyes

Please, not you again.

Now, this comes from a dad of a centerfielder that has a little bit of skill himself. But Joe is an outstanding player with some great tools. He gets a jump on a ball off the bat better than anyone his age I have ever seen play the game.

Look out for Randall Thorpe at Colleyville, he's the next Joe Leftridge.

Mr. Guthrie, AFLAC and AREA CODE isn't intended to SHOWCASE BASEBALL. ITS to SHOWCASE THE PLAYER, some of the best HS TALENT in the COUNTRY.

Just like the McDonalds Basketball high school all stars, it isn't good basketball and there is no defense. BUT its a showcase of the players and their athletic ability.

AFLAC, East Coast Pro Showcase and the Area Code Games are the equal to the McDonald high school basketball deal.

Let the kids enjoy it! You would have if you had been that good and if they had that way back when you were young.

Easy KD. I never said the kid was bad...did I?? We shut him down. Big Grin

IMO....I do not believe he is in my top 30. He can run though....but so can many kids. Just IMO.
I've seen a lot of of stellar athletes play in these parts over the last dozen years and I have to say that Joe Leftridge may be the best defensive outfielder of the lot. Certainly the best OF that I've ever been associated with.

The comment about Joe being shut down by Train's favorite team has no merit and speaks to his inability to post rationally. DBAT 18 played his team four times this summer and came out ahead in three. Joe did very well for us in those games and I recall one particular 5-2 win in the Regional Qualifier in which Joe had all 5 rbis including a game-winning grand slam.

If you're going to disparage a young man with uneducated inuendo - at least get your facts straight. Roll Eyes

I agree with you DBAT GM BUT was that grand slam hit off of BB, CG, or BS? I don't think so! He is a tremendous defensive player and I would always agree with that.

Heck PD's sons pretty fast does that make him #31? Big Grin Big Grin
