CaCO3Girl,
Your story points out what I was saying in my post. All-Stars has little to do with how everyone at a youth ball game acts.
little league, fun times. Dont miss them at all.
Those few years at 10-12 when things were still hopeful, positive and naïve were tremendous compared to the decent into selfishness, cynicism and withdrawal that came with High School. All made worse by the cell phone.

On my tee ball teams the kids batted in numeric order. #1 led off the first game, #2 the second game and so on.
Is his swing still that sweet?
I know it is worse in LL and younger age divisions, but it never stops as kids get older.
Here is an umpiring story. Before we started our own umpiring association "UmpNation" we used another umpiring association. It was a disaster, we were getting youth league umpires to do high level HS age games.
I was at East Cobb one night watching a game. The home plate umpire was a younger man that liked to show off. He was doing those fancy moves as he called strikes, especially strike three. Kind of made me ill watching that, but what can you do. Then there was a close play at 1B and a lady sitting behind home plate, not loudly says "how can he call that"? This plate umpire turns towards her and said "you shut your bleeping mouth or I will throw you out of the park". I wasn't 10 feet from the lady and watched everything that took place. I told the umpire "Get back there and do your job and quit bothering people. He gave me a dirty look, but did get back to the game.
When that game ended I followed that umpire out to their dressing area not to make a scene in front of everyone. I told him we never want him umpiring our games again. He said you cant do that, I'm with the association. I kind of unprofessionally told him what I thought of him and that he was never going to do another game for us. As you might expect he started to threaten me, which only made me angrier. Being mad, I actually felt like fighting, but realized 1. I'm too old for that and 2, I'm supposed to be the president of PG. I also knew I have some sons there that are 6'5 and 6'7 both 240 or more and some other big boys on our staff standing out there next to me. They didn't say anything except for telling the guy he "you need to go". So no blows, just a bunch of insults. He even had a couple other umpires that started off defending him. But they figured out in a hurry that if this argument got out of hand, it wasn't going to be something they wanted. So after a few minutes of this, I finally just walked away telling him he was done working our games.
Guess what? He sued me, claiming I pushed him and falsely claimed he did a poor job of umpiring and it was going to cost him future earnings. Other than taking time to deal with the law suit, it was dropped. The next season we started our own umpiring association. Other than a few instances it has been one of the best things we have ever done.
It's not all fun!
PG,
That story again shows that it’s not just All-Star parents who act like jerks. The more important the game is PERCIEVED to be, some yoyo is gonna show up who will ruin things for everyone. Those All-Star parents who are jerks were jerks before the All-Stars, just like that umpire you spoke about was a jerk before he worked a game for you. The good thing about it is, the percentage of jerks is so low. Unfortunately, one bad apple …

STATS - Don't think you won't get called on this one. Do you have numbers to back up your claim? Any regional differences? What do you consider "low" versus "medium"?

Swing is still good. A little more compact. Still loves to hit. His HS freshman coach said of him "I have never seen someone so excited to get to the plate"

... and how do you define "jerk"? A lot of people think they can just watch someone and figure out they are acting like a jerk, but in reality, that isn't what is happening at all. You have to analyze the numbers to make any accurate conclusion. And you say "one bad apple". What do you consider bad and are you sure you are not including any pears or bananas? Do you have any spreadsheets to indicate that it is, in fact, an apple and is, in fact, bad?

What do you mean called? I’ve always believed that the vast majority of participants and fans in the game of baseball were great people. If you’re saying they aren’t, its news to me. Would you please show me where they aren’t?

I define a jerk as someone acts foolishly out of ignorance and becomes disruptive for no good reason that can be discovered. A good example would be those who gang up on someone and attempt to bully them simply because that person didn’t agree with them.
If I’m wrong, please enlighten me. What do you call someone who acts like that?
I consider bad, anyone acting like a jerk.
I don’t use spreadsheets for baseball. Never have, never will. The only time I convert my stuff to a SS is when someone doesn’t have the ability to use a DBM and SQL.
Stats, this passes the eye test for me, plus it may help clarify the situation and the underlying metrics for you, despite the small sample size.
Pretty funny

I agree with your definition & you certainly used a great example.

Well, in all my years in this community, I have had real issue with just one person. I guess, now I have two.
Adbono, Stats and I have gone 'round and 'round for years and he knows exactly what those issues are that I have with him (and don't let the "no good reason" BS fool you). Since you have insisted on calling me a jerk behind your thinly veiled remark, I would be happy to listen via PM what your issue is.

cabbagedad, I will be happy to send you a PM to clear this up. I have no issue with you.
Re: the percentage of jerks is low
All it takes is one person among a couple of hundred to be an annoying problem. And he's only a half of one percent of the crowd.
