Seriously after 15000 + posts it sometimes is a marvel how cliches can be repackaged as original thought.

I have not seen either pitcher pitch in person, does that mean that I have no clue? How many othets here have seen them pitch?
Seems to me that you have an issue and it's not about what I said.
The original post was about one pitcher being better than the other because of stats.
Do you believe that to be true? Do you think that because one college player's stats are better than anothers he will be a better player at the next level? That's the discussion here, get with it.
What I said is not derogatory, try to catch up on some scouting reports, or you don't beleive in that either. Sounds like you have some other issue going on?

If I have an issue it might be that I enjoy original and creative thinking vs repackaged thought (ie scouting reports). You are entitled to be scouting report 2.0 but if someone has an opinion outside of this months report they should be allowed to post it without the big red bird's momma denouncing them.

This is exactly what I have an issue with. I do appreciate you asking. Thank you.

Man, you do have an issue, I guess it's with me, I thought perhaps talking about high draft picks was it, some people have issues with that.

What was original and creative about this topic?

Ok. Let's see Cole, Hultzen, Bauer. The guy with the worst stats, couldn't get the job done, poor performance (according to the OP) gets the first pick! And I didn't even see 2 of them pitch...duh.

Guess that some think that this "Big RedBird's Momma" is stupid as scouting reports as well.

igball, what bothers you the MOST, that I am a MOM? BTW, you need to take a course in that scouting 2.0. Mad

With one guy going 1st and one going third, everyone in this thread can basically say they were right as there is not much difference between the first and third overall pick.

My reason for bringing up Greg Maddux was not to say that Bauer reminds me of Maddux. My point was as good as Maddux's tools were, I doubt they were scored as highly as Gerrit Cole. If you think one guy is Greg Maddux however, I don't really care what the tools equation is, I want Greg Maddux.

The MLB network did a nice comparison of styles between Bauer and Lincecum. I don't think Bauer throws as hard but they look similar. Again, I get the tools analysis but at the end of the day, the idea is to get outs. Danny Hultzen does not throw as hard as Cole either obviously. We'll see who the best pitcher is. If Cole becomes Roy Halliday, maybe the Pirates are on their way back.

The MLB Draft has started. The teams are calling into their picks into a MLB Network studio in New Jersey to be announced by commissioner Bud Selig.

The first pick, as expected, was UCLA righthander Gerrit Cole to the Pirates. Cole was drafted by the Yankees out of high school in 2008 and refused to negotiate with them. The Yankees were stunned, having been led to believe that Cole was willing to sign.

Cole has great talent but was 6-8 with a 3.31 ERA for the Bruins. Some teams also questioned his attitude.

I suspected the first time but with posting the above statement (I know it's not yours), I still suspect you came here to stir the pot more than begin a great discussion.

So igball, now what do you think of the above? Do you think that Mark B has ever seen these guys play (not counting TV, we've all done that).

Actually tpm I was not looking to stir the pot at all. I posted the quote from the Boston Globe reporter as he is paid to write about baseball and I noticed it last night as I am a BoSox fan and I was on the website several times last night. Looking to start a discussion and with 56 responses it looked like the goal was achieved. Obviously it appears the peanut gallery was split evenly between the two.

Yes, I was trashed because I never saw them play, but gave an opinion, just wondering and asking if you ever had seen either play in person?

Tpm I have not seen them in person either, just on tv like you. I have three in high school and are busy with them so it would be very difficult to fly 2000 miles for a weekend to watch UCLA. I have a hard enough time driving 20 miles to watch OSU.
