Granby vs LT should be a great game. They split during the season 2-1 score in both games. I'll give the edge to Granby because of thier D and LT dosent have as much to play for #1 seed locked. As for Maury vs Churchland I know it is hard to beat a team 3 times but The other 2 games were not close even with Maury having a chance to tie for title in the last game.

Don't like the fact that All-District voting is after tourney starts.
Lake Taylor and Granby will be close low scoring game I believe. Coach Gray will have those boys ready and pumped up. They held Mike Warthon and the Erby twins in check pretty much the first two games...I just don't see it happening for a 3rd time in a row.

As for Maury and Churchland, I'm taking Churchland again. I'm pretty sure Sam Warren pitched at least one of the 2 games they played if not both. It will be hard for Maury to keep Bynum in check.

I concur. LT looked completely uninterested. Interesting pitching strategy by Coach but one that utlimatley failed. Conversely, Granby was fired up. They started strong and stayed there. Many players who have not seen many innings this season were hitting bombs. Can they carry it over to beat Maury today? How many innings did Warren pitch last night?

I'm not an Eastern District follower, but I did attend the game last night. Warren threw 2 2/3, I believe. He must have thrown 60-70 pitches in that time. He appeared to be absolutely spent by the time he was pulled.
shoelessjoe2012,
you saw the same thing I saw. From what I hear starting pitcher had a heat patch on his back due to having back spasm. I was somewhat puzzled when the freshman RF came in to pitch on 3rd inning when Taylor Erby was available to at least them them out of the jam they were in.

I hope them boys will be more focused on Monday vs Great Bridge.

Speak for yourself lame Granby Fan,I hope Maury goes all the way.Certainly, the SE has done very well against the Eastern in the past as has all the other Districts, but Maury's old Dog ain't scared to come down off the porch! The population growth just isn't in Norfolk anymore, but that doesn't mean we just throw in the towel. We can still give out a few black eyes still.Granby
I have seen Maury & Granby play. I am afraid I don't give them much of a chance VS any district this year. Not sure it has to do with Norfolk growth. These schools have the same number of kids as most other schools. I think it has more to do with the percentage of kids who either go private or use grandpas address to go out of district. I would bet that 1/2 the ED all district team would not start for any mid-tear team or better in any other district.

The difference between the Eastern District and the Southeast or Beach District is that the majority of ED players stay playing in rec ball. The majority of players in the SED and Beach Districts that have any talent at all, quit rec ball at age 9 or 10 and start with quality AAU teams. Most of them also take private professional lessons on a weekly basis to compete against each other for a starting spot on the team. So with the combination of consistently playing against better talent for many years and continually improving their mechanics and footwork they grow into much better players.

Some day when the Eastern District players finally get tired of getting their arses handed to them in Region play maybe they'll wake up and realize that rec ball is not the answer.

Spot on...while fun for kids to play LLB does not develop skills to compete in high school or beyond. Many of the coaches simply don't have the knowledge or playing experience to teach the fundamentals of the game properly. This gets compounded at the higher level of rec ball as may of the kids who move from the LL field to the "big" field at age 13 simply don't have the skill set to make the transition.

The ED players that I know who had stand out careers in HS and are playing at the next level did exactly what you said; they played AAU and sought out professional instruction from local college coaches and some of the better area HS coaches.
