Area Code Games are an outstanding and long reputable event.  Getting an invite to the tryout is the first step toward getting an invite to the games.  Excellent recruiting opportunity that will be attending by extremely high level Pro Scouts and execs as well as college scouts.  Lots of coverage on Baseball America as well.

Tryouts are free, so as long as no one asks you for money, it's likely a very legitimate inquiry.   The A's have the territory you're in, so expect to the see the invite come on behalf of them.

Keep close tabs on your Spam folder. You do not want to miss that invite. Did you get the scout's contact information? I am guessing that the tryout will be mid-June. If you haven't heard from anyone by June 1, you might want to follow up.

Area Code Games is a legitimate thing. Tryouts here in the PacNW have a ton of players so it can be a bit of a zoo. If your son's area is covered by the A's expect heavy competition; their team is always competitive.

The KC Royals Scouts operate the tryouts. We will send the Royals National scout team to Australia in December.

Congratulations to your son.   It's a GREAT event and as you can see, you only get there through an invite.  Of course, to get to the games you have to make it through the tryouts so have your son prepared as there will be a lot of players there.  And remember, this first step IS a tryout and that's how it's run.  The tryout is an all day event  (though for some it will not be) and there's a lot of standing round and not much for the parent to do except to make sure your players is fed and hydrated properly.  Good luck, hope he makes it onto the team.

It's a great event, plan on there being a lot of kids there.  Consider it an honor just to be invited to try out.

my 2013 , 2014 have attend the AC try-out a couple of times and 2018 last year.  It's a great great great opportunity.... however be prepared top level talent. But even if he does not make the team , its still good in many ways.  I just told the AC Nationals  2018 cannot attend this year. I wish he could though good times.

No invite here, but was wondering what the format was (standard workout?) and who was present evaluating?  Do any coaches/scouts that are not directly involved in selecting/fielding the team participate?

my son went to the area code tryout earlier tis week and boy was it on a nice field. grass in the infield and grass in the outfield and it looked beautiful. we are used to dirt in the infield and dirt in the outfield so just being able to be on that filed was an incredible honor for my boy. my son threw and I think he did ok. after he threw one of the guys watching came up to him and said boy you have one nice hammer. everybody says they have a 126. most do not but you do.

we have no idea what this means and my son was a little too shy and overwhelmed to ask.  one of the dads on our legion team said a hammer is a curve ball. but did not know what a126 was.

can anyone help

He meant twelve-six, as in a curveball that breaks from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock, IE straight down, not somewhat across.

I sent you another PM with my contact info.  Recruiting out of Montana is unique due to a few factors, one being that we don't have high school sanctioned baseball and another because we are remote and a lot of scouts don't travel this way.  My son went through this in 2014 and now plays for a D1 school.  If you would like any insight into the nuances of Montana recruiting please give me a call.  Good luck.
