I recently moved to the DFW area and as I understand it the usual top private schools are Plano Prestonwood, Addison Trinity Christian, Dallas First Baptist, and Dallas Christian. My question is: who are the top players on these teams and what are some other area private schools with a chance to have good season this year?

Dallas Bishop Lynch has 9 returning Senior starters. Some of their top players include Beck, Twichell, Gebhard, and Hebert. Plano Prestonwood is a solid club always seem to have great players every year. Should be exciting to see them in their move up to the new district. DC with Brooks and First Baptist with Magruder will battle it out for the district title yet again. Should be alot of great baseball played as usual in the private school ranks.
Jesuit is not in any trouble they are always solid. They just play in one tough district. Just ask their football team. With Allen, PESH, Wylie, and Plano among others any team would have trouble in that district. Nolan and TCA will be tough as usual. Sharp always has his guys ready to play day in and day out. Nolan was good last year have a solid lefty not sure of his name though. They gave both Lynch and TCA a run for their money. They always play these two teams well no matter the records. Lynch's non district schedule is tough but with all those seniors it should be fun to see how they matchup with some of the best the public schools have to offer
As a veteran of this topic, I could not resist this thread. BL has a solid lineup... the same solid lineup they've had for the past three years, and every time TCA has bested them and won the district. While somewhat depleted this year with only 4 seniors returning, I'm sure the greatness of Jack Sharp will bring out the best in these boys and TCA will contend. It is also a much different district this season with the addition of Prestonwood and Grapevine Faith. Those playoff spots will be hotly contested.

As for BL's tough nondistrict schedule... TCA always plays top 4A and 5A public school competition in the preseason Denton, Newman Smith and Highland Park tournaments. Not sure about Grapevine Faith, but PWood will have to step up their non-district competition level this year as last season they played a total of one game versus 5A public competition. That will have to change for them to improve and compete in the new district.

For "newaroundhere"... if you are looking for the best private school for your son, there is no doubt the BEST COACH to play for in this arena is Jack Sharp at TCA - bar none. He has been there the longest, is loved by his players and parents alike, has multiple state, regional and district titles in his pocket, and actually speaks well of his players when college coaches call. Not something that happens everywhere. Wink

BL should be very good this year and will be lead by Preston Beck and John Michael Twichell. Their pitching will also be solid with Josh Hauser and Jordan Hebert. Beck will also help with that aspect.

Jesuit is not....in trouble,in a sense, but they will be down a few players. Matt Shortall has seemingly lead that team the last 2 years and will do it again this year. Their lineup is young but do have a few big bats in Shortall and Josh Bell. There pitching could be a weak point with hardly any expierence. De Gruy should help a lot and I recently heard Shortall was 93 on the mound. Tough district and playoffs is a MAYBE.

Dont know a ton about Prestonwood but I know they return a good bat in Jerry Owen and a quality pitcher in Travis King. They should have some good games against BL and TCA. For some reason I think that Sharps coaching over at TCA will definitly help them win a lot of games.
I've seen Shortall throw upper 80s with no pitching mechanics. No endurance when I saw him... sorry Shorty, I'm sure you're working on it. Having said that, and this is a serious question, does anyone think he should focus on pitching? I know logic might initially say no, but that arm. I've never seen anyone throw a baseball as far as that kid, maybe pitching could work?

The best SCHOOL for baseball, academics, and overall development as a man is Jesuit. Shameless plugging Big Grin.

Jesuit lost 10 seniors from last year. This year will tough if you look at expectations, but I think Jesuit found a way to win a few games people didn't expect us to when I was there. Don't be surprised if they are right there in every game.

And, just to end it, hello everybody. I'm still reading when I can.
Trinity is a lot of work. I can't say I do much besides wake up, go to class, study, finish assignments, work out, eat whenever possible, and then of course... play baseball. Sleeping usually only happens on an as needed basis. Weekends are great for catching up on sleep and studying for exams that might be a week or so away.

I've survived my first round of Biology, Chemistry, and Economics tests so far. Chemistry round two is Wednesday and English round one (midterm) is Thursday. I can't completely tell you what my "average" is because basically your average here only matters on how it compares to the rest of the class. It's a new kind of school for me, that's for sure, but I love it. I can tell you, while knocking on wood, that I haven't received any grade under a B. The thing that's making school... "harder than it would be" are the 3 hour labs for Biology and Chemistry. Mostly because they take up a lot more than just 3 hours throughout the week.

Baseball is going great. It's intense, but they are great about understanding for school. I'm really happy I made the switch to only pitching because it allows me a lot more free time. They actually have me trying submarine (because I can't break a window to save my life), but ideally I will be doing both when spring comes.

And, about the women: if you were to ask any man from Jesuit, none would cite that as a problem with the school. Girls are always at Jesuit. I will say that when I walked into my first class (Biology) at Trinity and found myself seated next to a female, I had to do a double take. The biggest piece of advice I can give to any student interested in Jesuit or St. Marks is that if you choose not to go because of the all male student body, you are crazy. I know you were joking Natural, but I have spoken with kids from my middle school or just around the area and they always bring that up. I guess I probably did at one point too, but I could not have been happier with my choice. It all comes together senior year, it's weird. I'm hoping jesuitbaseball will come on here and echo my sentiments. I think it's safe to say that any of these private schools are great places to attend school and play some baseball.
Dtiger-You're right - I was just kidding. You certainly turned out well. Glad to hear Trinity is going well for you. Best of luck!

newaroundhere - TCA has 4 returning seniors: 6'5" RHP Cole Thompson, Sinkerballer Chris McTavish, Catcher Sam Davidson, and OF Austin Chappell. Those four are close and will be the team leaders... Junior Phyre Burns (yes that's really his name) returns after hitting leadoff last season - great athlete could become something special. Junior 3rd baseman and RHP Ryan Doerhoff also returns and Junior Jason Hursh contends for the SS spot after missing last year with elbow injury. Several talented sophomores could contribute to what will be a young team, but one that has a chance to contend.
I second Kyles post.

Jesuit helped me develop as a human a student, and a baseball player. I am now at Rockhurst University, a small Jesuit school in Kansas city playing baseall. I think that Jesuit prepared me for this school better than any other school that I would have attended.

I also agree that it was weird, but very nice to see girls in my first class in college, but bottom line Jesuit, St. Marks, Prestonwood, any of those schools will give you a great education

Good luck to all the high school teams this year, and I will try to follow it as best I can
