I would not count on it-- Torre is one tired coach right now--they have a major pitching problem to say the least--- Mussina is the only one who you cannot doubt-- all the others have a history over the past two/three years and who knows what they will do--once they have a losing streak George will go ballistic and you just might see Torre and Stots follow Popeye to warm Florida air.

I wouldn't worry too much about the yankees pitching. With that offense (able to score 1,000+) runs this year, the could probably put a high school starting staff out there and still make the playoffs. Bad for baseball, I don't think so. I for one always liked to see a dominate team i.e. cincinnati big red machine, oakland a's, then you have something to shoot for trying to knock them off. Parity sucks, i don't want to see everyone at .500, then no one is great, everyone is average. Hate the yankees if you want too, but ya gotta respect them, they do what it takes. Boston has no one to blame but themselves, they could have had a-rod for an extra $20 million. You think they wouldn't spend that much this morning? come on...
I am enjoying this thread immensely from the view atop Pirate country. I just don't understand why no one's talking about THEM! I mean, look what studs we've recently added to our all star minor league lineup: Rick Reed (again), Orlando Merced (again), Randall Simon (again), Jose Mesa (ugh---BAD GUY!), Chris Singleton, Daryle Ward, Mark Guthrie, Juan Acevedo, and just last night, Raul Mondesi....I think we're contenders.... pull_hair

Is this heaven?...

PAMom...
I am enjoying it too....
The innuendo regarding the two teams is priceless...

One team has "egos" and the other doesn't?
One manager can handle players ane the other one can't?
One team has pitching and the other one doesn't?
One team spent the money on Arod and the other one had no interest?

Talk about rose-colored glasses.
Can't you just feel the love?

As a lifelong YANKEE FAN (I love MY Mariners too) I hate George!!!!!!!!! His ego is the one that will change baseball! It won't go away but it will change!

Real revenue sharing! Real salary caps! Real drug testing! Thank George, he's doing it to spite the other owners. Flash the cash, and everyone goes after it.

Parity is good, as far as salaries go! Real players will make the game exciting (not pumped up beef boys) when they do things that nobody expects them to!

no pity for redsox
even their clam chowder is weak
manhatten clam chowder for ever!
as for giants and dodgers
you left, you have lost for ever, you are the biggest traitors, the most greedy
you shouldnt even be able to keep the team names
thems new york names
cant wait for silly basketball and hockey to be over
oh by the way the lakers never sign any free agents do they
all in good fun
clap
I can't wait to see what happens when Rodriguez decides that he doesn't really want to play 3b and he tries to gently nudge Jeter from SS. Or what happens when he starts trying to call pitches from his position on the field.
Also, I can't wait to see how the very savy NY fans treat him when they see through his phony Mr. nice guy image.
I just can't wait to watch the train wreck!!!!!!!!! I just hope it doesn't take a couple of years to happen, but it will happen!!

Just wonderin, Does anybody know what Alex did as a youth. I mean did he jump from team to team every year always trying to be on the team with the best chance to win or the team that would cater to his personal desires. Or was he a kid that stayed with an orginization throughout his development years? Just curious
Yankees are destroying baseball.....As much as i hate it has to come to this But baseball needs a salary cap. Its no longer working for a world series its buying a world series. Unless we want to see the yankees be there ever single year cause the out bid everybody for there superstars something has to change. Take the marlins for example they have to lay there teams at the bottom of the barrell for about 5 years just so they can have one year to be able to contend. Its just not right.
Folks --think about it for a minute

Giambi-- he had knee surgery and there are reports that he may not be fully ready when the season starts--even if he is can he rebounde from last years poor season

Jeter-- how is his shoulder? If you watched the WS he was continually icing it--I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop out of few times this year especially when he plays the Red Sox

WIlliams--- is he healthy? will he like being just a DH-- he might just go and do another excellent jazz album with his guitar

Matsui-- can he do it again this year?

Sheffield-- he is on the downside-- can he do as well this year as he did last? Can he handle the microscope of the NY media

Lofton-- the vagabond who goes to the playoffs every year with a different team-- he may have made the move too early this year

PITCHING-- other than Mussina and Mariano the staff is a BIG ??????? They do not have LHP on the staff

AND

the moment they lose two straight George is going to go ballistic

Should be a fun year but I do not think they are a shoo-in-- watch out for the Red Sox-- they lost nothing and added Schilling and Foulke and a gold glove second sackerin Pookie and strengthened the bench with Ellis Burks-- even if Schilling goes .500 they are still a stronger team than last year
