Helloooo ladies!!! Decided to spice up our forum with new and nifty information!!!

Drum roll pleeeease!!!!

Once again,...shortstopmom made her regular trip to handy-dandy Walmart this week. ( anyone remember my posting about the out-of-this-world first aid kit? Perhaps not,..but if you scroll down you'll find it. Some posts make better impressions than others! ha! Big Grin )

Well,...I'm happy to announce that
Walmart now carries precut, plastic, electric plug-in jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. ( I'm sure you all have seen them in the years past, they look real, but aren't. )

But THIS year is different!!!!
This year they have big plastic baseballs
( footballs too ) with carved out pumpkin faces!
Toooo funny!!!!! Too cute,..well in a sort of scarey jack-o-lantern face way. I think they were priced at like $8.45.

Hey,..if you're insisting on getting a teenager, particularily a baseball-player- teenager, a pumpkin this year,..why not get one that looks like a baseball that he can then keep in his room year round? GREAT for dorm rooms and first apartments! No flies,..no candles, no carving with sharp instruments...its a win win situation!

I just had to share!!!

( Does it sound based on my past few posts that I have no life? ha!!!)

I'm beginning to wonder myself!! LOL!

Cute idea, must get one! Thanks for posting.

Reminds me of my favorite "cheap" toy I ever bought for son, probably 10-plus years ago: an M & M's dispenser in the form of a pitcher, with mitt on the left hand, blue baseball cap on orange M & M smiley person(cap twists off so you can refill the M&M belly), and you pull the pitching arm (with baseball in it) forward to dispense the M & Ms into the gloved hand. I enjoy lining it up in front of large photos of son pitching in that same stance Big Grin.

I keep it stocked with peanut M&Ms when son is home from college. I only sneak a couple a day.

Anyway, Walmart's on my route tomorrow, thanks!
In our part of the country we call Target " Tar-jaaaay ",..sounds a little more upper class.
( aka: snootier! tee-hee )

Cry with me ladies,..our Target is 50 minutes away. Wahhhhh,..so for the daily essentials we cruise by the local Walmart. ( open 24 hrs,...perfect!)

The baseball jack-o-lanterns are tacky-tuna-as all-get-out,..but then again,... its for Halloween, and I couldn't resist.

I knew that my 16 year old would have looked at me like I was an alien if I had come home with a cute pumkin. ( even though the urge to ignore his growing up so fast and get him the cute Mickey Mouse one, did flash through my mind briefly! )

So,..this year I got away with getting him his annual pumpkin, even if I had to disguise it under the illusion of being for baseball.
Not sure that will work next year,..but this year the tradition has continued and I am victorious!!!! ha!

We need to keep this on the DL ( as my teenagers say,..on the " down-low ",) just between us moms and the moms only network! He'd absolutely die if he know I was writing about all this! ( hee-hee-hee!!! )

Flew ito Walmart last night to get birthday paper for a party for my daughter. Zipped by the plastic baseball jack-o-lantern isle, and the entire shelf was empty! I kid you not.

A few straggler basketball jack-o-lanterns were lingering around amongst the costumes,...but that was it.

Perhaps the tacky-tuna-as-all-get-out baseball pumpkins were a hit! I bet Tar-Zhay ( thx Bordeaux Mom! Too funny!) comes up with their own version too!

They were cute,.well kinda. Who knew they'de be a sell out! ha!

Well, I ventured into our local WalMart (Mountain View, CA) yesterday (across the street from Tar-Zhay, conveniently Wink ) and bought son one. They were $6.94. If anyone is absolutely dying to have one and can't get one at their local store, PM me--I'll send one along if I can. There were several on the shelf. A nice lady stopped me to admire it on my way out Roll Eyes. Truly, truly tacky!! Especially the green resin "stem". Son flew home from NYC and got in at 2 this morning, so he hasn't yet had a chance to comment on the new atrocity on his bookshelf!!

Goooo get em' gals!

At this rate there will be glowing baseball jack-o-lanterns all across the U.S.!
( thats kinda cool,...ya know?! )

Funny how some Walmarts are better than others, depending on their location. I know my sister, located in central California, won't step foot in hers! She says it's in a " not-so-desireable " part of town & is messy and unorganized inside!
Razz ( bleck!)
Well heck,..whatta ya expect for under $10.00! ha!

Well I dared to go where NO "Tar-jay" gal has gone before.....my local Wal-mart store! Eek But nothing stands in my way when it comes to any sort of unique baseball decoration! And I am proud to report that I emerged relatively unscathed and the proud owner of a "baseball jack-o-lantern"! Big Grin It will be making the trip to son's baseball apartment next weekend! Thanks again for the "heads up"! But I have to admit MY Wal-mart falls into the "undesirable" category...so I will have to throw out the Wal-mart bag and receipt so there is no evidence from where that jack-o-lantern came! Wink

Funny to think about baseball jack-o-lanterns glowing across America on Halloween! Like a psychic connection between us all.....

I'm liken' this!!!!!!

Perhaps there will be a HSBBW Ladies get together/reunion one day in the future! (????)

We'll ask everybody to bring their famous talked about foods to share, glowing pumpkins, pictures of their kids, etc. etc.
Dress code: wear one of your son's old tournament shirts or favorite jerseys! HA!!!

Wouldnt THAT be fun some day!!!!!!
Big Grin

P.S.,....it's been so fun to know you gals are getting your baseball pumpkins!! I do feel connected somehow,..and happy too!

I bet the walmart's site has a list of their stores with contact info and you could call around--I'll check out ours again tomorrow just in case you want me to send one.

Style suggestion: place son's baseball cap atop jack-o-lantern. Now it has an individual personality and the cap fits perfectly. (I might substitute the Giants cap for Halloween proper, if son doesn't take it with him to college next week, to keep with the traditional orange-and-black theme)......

Good Sunday Morning gals!

Just drove all the way to " boo-koo-ville " for a Fall ball tourney this morning, only to find it has been delayed due to rain,...so drove all the way home ( 1 hour each way ) and are waiting for the final field assessment!

In the meantime checking in with you all at the HSBBW! Figure I have to get some type of baseball in my system this morning! Coffee alone is not enough to get me to wake up at 5 a.m. Ha!

Bordeaux,...wait til you hear this!...It gets better,....we actually moved from Honolulu, Hawaii to Kansas! ( Home is Cali. where all of our relatives are and where I grew up )
Cryyy with me!!
Love my home here,..( big white and brick historical home with wrap around porch!) good schools, and the country is cozy & safe.
Little crime and no hustle/bustle,...but sooo far, too far away from the beach & ocean! Talk about culture shock! HA!!
My children miss the island immensely! You can't exactly surf or snorkle here! ha!
Average daily tempersture in Hawaii was 82 with nice tropical breezes. It was DREAMY!!! We played baseball year round.
Guess you could say we traded paradise for cornfields and winter ice storms!
I keep telling the kids,..o.k. so sledding can be as fun as surfing,..hmmmm,..they aren't buying it.

There is a " sane " reason as to why we did this:
Husband is a military officer and we go wherever/whenever the military tells us to.

The ol' military family motto:
~ "Home is where the military send us!" ~ ha!

Gotta go check the field web site,...fingers crossed its dried out and we will be heading back to the car for yet another weekend baseball trip! Ya gotta love it!!!

P.S. LadyNMom,... I'll check my Super Walmart here for ya. It would be easy to ship if you needed me to!

Here in my "neck of the woods" in rural East Texas, WalMart is commonly referred to as "Wally World." I haven't yet checked to see if our local supercenter has the baseball jack-o-lanterns, but I will definitely check it out. I am not a huge Wally World fan myself but they have been very, very good to my family as my 24 year old son has started his post college career as a WalMart assistant store manager in Marble Falls, Texas. His is making almost as much as a first year WalMart employee as I am as a 30+ year public school teacher. Hmmmm....some things just ain't right! Frown

Ann
Well I went to one Wal Mart and no baseball jack-o lanterns. So while I was out picking up a few little things for Matts goody bag for his 21st I had hubbby let me out to run into our other Walmart here. And low and behold there they were waiting on Me!!!!! I grabbed 3 one for Matt, Whitney(his fiance) and one for me. Wink

Thanks shortstopmom I would have never knew about these little jewels if not for you sharing your treasure.

I gave Matt and Whitney theirs last night and they loved them. He is going to keep his in his window b/c he's afraid someone will take his if he puts it out on his porch.

Smile

Okay, well, true to my word, I got another one today. In case anyone cannot, after truly diligent search, locate one, I'll send it on to you. My girls give me a hard time about focusing on S's baseball so much so if I end up with TWO it will be embarrassing.

I don't have an outdoor outlet at my front door so "in the window" is my only option--but I think it will look better that way anyway. You have to put it at just the right height because otherwise the lamp inside is too visible and ruins the effect. Oh well, what can you expect for $6.94.....

P.S. to SSM--definitely one can have nicer houses elsewhere than California. You are very adaptable too--your husband must be grateful!

Hey..Just wanted to say that I saw the baseball head pumpkin at our local WalMart and couldn't resist getting it for my freshman son who is 13 hours away at college. I'm sending it to him tomorrow, I know he'll just love it. He can put it in their 2nd floor dorm window. He's only been away at school for 32 days, but I do miss him greatly.....
Mom of 2 catchers,
Oh my goodness,..there you are right in Missouri
and I here I am right here in Kansas.

I will check my Super Walmart this weekend and see if they have any more.

You are just too close to not have a baseball pumpkin jack-o-lanterm if I can help it! Smile
Please check back here this weekend and I'll tell ya what I found!!! Fingers crossed!!!

Our Fall ball keeps getting rained out,....wahhhh. Nothing like heading out to the ball field all ready and psyched, only to turn around and go back home due to wet soggy fields. Frown
We're playing HS football too,..but like you said,..its just not the same!

PABaseball mom, 03Parent, & others....thumbs up for the baseball pumpkins!! Do us moms rock or what?

Shortstopmom and Bordeaux--Thanks so much for the offers. Sorry I didn't get back with you sooner, the hubby went to the hospital the other night with an irregular heart beat and the rest of my life pretty much came to a standstill. This evening he is beating normally so hopefully all is well...

Anyway, I gave our old Wally World one more try and today I am the proud owner of my own ball!!!

Shortstopmom,

Just bought some mums and a bale of hay (straw?) for the front porch yesterday, as a matter of fact. Baseball jack-o-lantern made it's way up to college last weekend complete with the team's baseball cap on top of it. Scarecrow is coming out of the basement this afternoon. Autumn is in the air here in PA....so I'm getting a jump on the fall decorating. Have to take advantage of the situation when I'm "in the mood". Smile
Luvbb,

You're my kinda gal! You've now inspired me and my mood!!!
Off to get my hay bail and cornstocks. ( they are practically free, here in Kansas! In Hawaii,..not so free! Cost big bucks!! $$$$ Go figure! ha!)

Have fun decorating.
( Hmmm,..do I put the scarey witch out or the happy ghost for the kids this year?? My teenagers like the scarey stuff,..I like to watch the wee-wittle ones that waddle all the way up my porch to see my Winnie-the-Pooh pumpkin! )
Oh ya just gotta get as tacky as-all-get-out on Halloween. The kids looove it!

Perhaps I'll put out both!! Wink
