My Sports Illustrated subscription is running out and I plan to let it die. There just isn't any valuable baseball coverage in that rag. The last straw came with this weeks issue when they had an article on video game competitions! Now That's NOT Sports!!!

I already subscribe to baseball digest, but as I have commented in an earlier thread, these guys need better editors as I am always finding errors in grammar and stats.

What baseball Magazines do you read?

What do you avoid?

Hey! I know what the WCG is (World Cyber Games) and it's actually pretty interesting. I mean what football is to America is what computer games (such as Counter Strike, Broodwar, Warcraft III) is to Korea.

I mean, they really good players over there (pro gamers) get paid 6+ FIGURES to play computer games. Tylenol is sponsoring a CS team called Ouch in the US. Trust me... it's going to continue to grow and it is pretty interesting! It's sports to a lot of people (over 70 countries are participating in WCG in Singapore) so yeah... :P

QUOTE]Yeah I got my SI today and they devoted almost 1/2 of it to TAILGATING. I don't pay for cooking stuff, I pay for insightful articles. I like the SI Players section and Steve Rushin is always good, but other than that the quality of info in there is just absurd. There is always an article every three weeks or so devoted to an ole coach and there is so much tennis and golf coverage. There is practically no coverage of baseball in there right now. I acn't wait till the playoffs start beacuse that is when the good stuff comes in. Spring Training and The Deadline and the playoffs are the only good times for baseball coverage. I am definlty not renewing it. I kinda like ESPN magazine. Is it just me or is there almost all pics in there though? Baseball America sounds awesome, I want a magazine that is devoted just for Baseball.
Hello All:

Surfing the web, I noticed that our magazine was noted on HS Baseball Web...

So, what is AT THE YARD???

"At The Yard" is a term that is heard around the minor leagues and used by players... "see ya at the yard" , "heading off to the yard", etc.... thus when Founder, Chris Hook, went to name his website and subsequently the magazine, he chose "At The Yard" as it was from his playing days in the minors.

At The Yard, is entering its third year of publication in 2006, and we liken ourselves to being the "People" magazine of Minor League Baseball, bringing the stories of the players, people and fun at the ballparks to the millions of minor league baseball fans.

The website serves as an outlet for Minor League player journals, bringing insights of life in the minors from the players themselves. We also have an "Ask the Experts" section, where you can read about articles from Minor League coaches and a scout, which may be of interest to some of the HS Baseball Web posters.

Best to all and we hope to see you "At The Yard" someday.

Don't be so hard on SI...

Enjoyed the video game article. How can you not love a "sport" where I can stay on the couch, drink beer and eat chips and still compete? Comon..

And the recipes? Now that is real hands on sports enjoyment! Tried all the recipes. Looking forward to the issue of "Sunset" where they reciprocate and and do an article on life in pro footballs trenches.

We all need to expand our horizons and and experience new and more exciting way's of looking at sports...

I for one am looking forward to future SI articles on other important sports....B-o-c-c-e ball, radio controlled cars, twister, Jeopardy, dog shows, curling...

And more inventive lifestyle articles as well: den decoration for the serious Football fan, ratings reports on big screen TV's, Party suggestions for super bowl finger foods...

And while we are at it lets add some celebrity stuff...Oprah's picks for the world series, Fishing with Roger Ebert, Mariah Carey's favorite NBA Finals snacks...

Anyone see the recent October Collegiate Baseball newspaper?

Front page article highlighting the weight-training program at Cal Poly. Son is going through their kettle-ball weight training right now. Quite unique and quite a workout. They had good success with their pitchers last year, not one injury all season and they were better able to maintain their velocity into late innings each game.

Any comments on the program? Are there any other baseball programs you are aware of using these techniques? Results?

(Sorry, the article is too long to print excerpts for those of you who do not get the publication.)
