Would be interesting to hear what happened re ejections at the Hickory / Hanover game. Source reported that after a Hanover pitcher had released a pitch (which the Hickory batter then hit), the first base umpire yelled time out because someone in the Hickory dugout "was not on the concrete." Discussion ensued, Hickory's head coach was ejected. Later, one of the assistants went to the parking lot to receive instruction from Hickory's head coach and he also was tossed for going to the parking lot and speaking with the head coach. (Don't they know how to text?)

Lights work Larry games are at 4 and 7. By the way, if you want to avoid the "parents" your welcome up in the press box with me running the score board and radar!
SFaison..do you take care of the scoreboard at Landstown?

I can say that FC went for a win, but when you have 4 games in 3 days, you must save arms and see potential players that can help down the road. Coach Stubbe is a worrior and will toughen through this spring break. The kids will rebound quicker than most!

Did anyone over 14 yrs old pitch for FC? Looked like Stubbie only used his mites for this one. I know the game matters not but gee wiz??

Add Landstown to that list , when I drove by there last week it looked like a number of lights were out. Who does take care of the scoreboards?

Speaking of score boards.......are these things run by VDOT? Not working for at least 3 schools I have been to at the beach Green Run, PA and Cox.....

In reference to the scoreboard, the city of Virginia Beach is "supposed" to perform maintenance on it, including replacing light bulbs. They're not the most responsive folks, unfortunately. A couple of our parents have attempted to clean out the contacts with a brush, but that doesn't work all the time. I'm confident the bulbs will be replaced, by, oh, Beach District tournament time.
Believe me, there was plenty of texting and phone calls from the bullpen. The second coach had actually left the field to use the bathroom (so he said). The whole scene was quite comical. Still not sure why the first base ump got his panties in such a bunch.

While some SED teams are flaunting their wears in such far-flung places as FL and SC, some schools like Oscar Smith and Hickory decided to stay closer to home. In a matchup of non-traditional baseball powers (or is it traditional non-baseball powers? always get the two confused), Oscar Smith crushed Tallwood 11-3. It was a 2-0 game until the 6th when OS bats came alive and Tallwood's defense had a total meltdown. Not that familiar with Tallwood's roster, but the starting pitcher was left in way too long. To the coach's credit, Tallwood did have another game right after the OS game. But that doesn't explain its awful base running and poor defense. Tallwood had runners picked off at first on 3-4 occassions and caught in rundowns at least 3 times. Not sure if OS was just that good yesterday, or Tallwood was that bad, but I am leaning towards the latter. I will post my thoughts on the Hickory v. Hanover game as part of another thread.

Did he try to sneak back into the dugout wearing a fake mustache like Bobby Valentine did?
Hickory is starting to make me into a believer. I took one look at the 1-loss Hanover team yesterday, and thought to myself that the boys from the SED didn't stand a chance. Hanover definitely passed the eye test. Every player 6 ft. or over and at least 180lbs. They looked like a D-1 ballclub. In an interesting decision, Matt Campbell opened on the mound for Hickory. He had trouble finding the strike zone in the first, walking 3 batters, and at the end of the 1st, Hanover was ahead 5-1. The romp was on. But not so fast smart guy (that would be me). Hickory answered with 7 runs of its own in the 2nd. Campbell went 3 2/3, and Hickory's relief pitching and defense was superb the rest of the way. Hanover only managed one more run the entire game, and Hickory won by a count of 13-6. Anyone know where I can find the bandwagon?

The highlight of the game, however, was probably the tossing of 2 Hickory coaches after arguing a called strike by the 1st base umpire. Not sure what was said, but when the head coach returned to the dugout he stood about 2 feet in front of the area designated for players and coaches to stand, and continued to stare down the 1st base ump. The ump called time as a pitch was thrown and hit for a base hit by the Hickory batter, and gave the coach the international signal for you're outta here! The Hickory fans went ballistic (more so about the timeout in the middle of a pitch and hit than the tossing of the coach). Later, when another Hickory coach left the field purportedly to go to the bathroom, he was also tossed by the 1st base ump for allegedly illegally communicating with the ejected coach. So one coach gets tossed for staring and not being in the designated area, and another for going to take a pee. Good stuff.

Kellam is playing in the same SC tournament as Nansemond River and Grassfield. They play tonight at 7:30 against Fort Dorchester, SC.

Kellam beat West Ashley last night, 11-1 per tournament web site, http://www.berkeley.k12.sc.us/...igh.cfm?subpage=4987
