Nothing to "believe" in until they whip Seattle.

The NFC is VOID of solid teams with the Seahawk's as the one exception.

If the Fins were in the NFC, they would be playing Seattle for the right to be spanked by the AFC champ!

Colts,Pats,Steelers,Broncos,Chargers,Chiefs and Dolphins are way better than any team save Seattle in the NFC...reminds me of the NL in MLB.
How quickly some have forgotten "The Miracle on 35th St (& Shields"). It is unlikely Bears will get to sb but stranger things have happened.
A few turnovers, fortunate calls and good bounces along with continued great defense and who knows - we may soon be worshipping "Lovie Ball" and talking about Bears "great chemistry" and great trainers and how they believed in each other so much they went from 1-3 to a title.
Whole lot of similarities. Lovie-Ozzie (2nd year for each). No preseason expectations from Vegas or national/local rags. No national or marquee names (cept Urlacher), inconsistent offense, great defense, reliever (Orton,Jenks) nobody wanted leading to playoffs, lots and lots of breaks, and great health along with many, many career years.
Almost forgot, maybe they'll see Delhomme, Hasselback, Manning or Brady at their worst or injury-plagued or out entirely as we saw with Petitte, Clemens, Lidge, Oswalt, Colon etc. Sour grapes from a Cub fan, you bet but don't rule out the Bears winning it.
Bears in 2006 - 2010.
Sure didn't think that a poor defensive effort would have told the tale in tonites game. Also, the Bears special teams were outplayed all game long. Have to agree with Aikman that the Bears should have stuck with the running game but nonetheless a good effort by Grossman and this game should help him tremendously for next season.I knew that Mike Brown was a valuable member of the defense and his absense really hurt. Is there anyone besides me who can't figure out why the Bears didn't double Smith? And why the heck was that backup one on one against him on that last touchdown?

The defense didn't appear to have an answer when they failed to get pressure on the QB. Not the best-coached game of the years by the Bears. That said...much better thna we were thinking back in Sept.
Bad coaching - Too conservative
Bad defensive sets for Smith
Bad playing calling - Lovey / Turner / Grossman - 1400 yard rusher and you pass that much.
Bad, bad Muhammad / Barrien couldn't do it all
Worse yet - Tillman / Rivera should have pulled him
What happened to Vasher
No 'play action

The only play the Panthers had all day was SMITH, you knew that, I knew that. What were the Bears thinking. Just like they didn't utilize JONES all day.

I don't care how good everyone thought this team was this year, play-offs or not, shame on the ones that tried to compare these guys to the '85 team. These guys a are good, but give me a break......the '85 Bears. NOPE, not a chance!!

This game reminded me of the CUBS vs. MARLINS series a few years ago. They were out-coached and out played.

One more thing, and you will probably disagree with me on this one, when you are off for a week, you loose focus, passion. Ask the Colts.

DA Bearsssssssssssss........they C-H-O-K-E-D
Should have played the first string against Minnesota...denying the defense to go for the franchises' least points allowed in a season against the Vikings was a mistake...this type of record is a defensive teams pride and joy...remember those sideline shots of Urlacher during that game?...he was not happy...they should have kept the defense riled up...not dampened down. And Grossman could have used the work...to gain experience.

I remember those shots.

Urlacher acting like he was NOT a team player, imo.

Maybe they are the Giants afterall...maybe they aren't as good, certainly on pass defense.

Your right, especially in Grossman's case. The guy has about a half a season of experience and they expect him to perform like a vet after sitting around for 3 weeks!
Too much rest can be a bad thing. Imo Colts & Bears each took entire first half before they looked sharp and in "the flow". Colts started resting guys a month ago and bears hadn't been tested for 3 weeks. You have 5 months to rest!
Bears lost because of a couple slips & mental mistakes by db's, no key turnovers, and awful day by Maynard and d line.
Bears still no long-term answers at qb. I think they have 2 solid #2's. Orton was 15-26 for 136 and 68.8 rating vs. Carolina - neither has stepped up as solid starter although Grossman appears to have more potential if he can stay healthy.
Next year Bears fall back a little with tougher schedule and rest of division especially Packers catches up somewhat.
The way the NFL is these days it's hard to say if they have a harder schedule, things can really change in one year . All of the NFC North plays the NFC West and AFC East. There are only two games now based on previous years record and the Bears get Tampa Bay and the Giants. As of today, those 2 don't scare me too much. Not saying the Bears are Super Bowl bound but the expectation should be to make the playoffs in 06.

I'm not a fan of resting guys either but somehow Seattle did the same thing their last game vs GB, had the bye week and came out looking good on Saturday. Denver on the other hand played all out their last regular season game in a game that didn't mean anything they sure looked even better on Saturday.
Carolina's luck will finally run out next week. Three straight road games, and finally facing a quality opponent will end the Panthers season. The Seahawks will be playing in Super Bowl 40. The Seahawks will realize what Ron Rivera and the Bears couldn't figure out. Steve Smith is a great player and needs to be respected alot more for his big game ability.
