Rangers first-round draft pick Blake Beavan has signed with Navarro College.

It's doubtful that Beavan will ever play for Navarro, but by going this route, in the event of an impasse with the Rangers, the former Irving standout would be draft-eligible again in 2008 instead of 2010 if he enrolled at Oklahoma.

I actually am kind of interested. In lay man's terms ... what does this mean? That he (Beavan) values himself more than the Rangers do or that the Rangers gave him a stinky deal and he is trying to make the most of his ML opportunity?

Please don't respond by bashing Beavan. That isn't what I intend with my message. Just curious about how the process can get muddy. I thought he was very excited/happy to be a Ranger. Thanks.
It always amazes me how someone can have a 7 digit deal in front of them, they reach their dream to play in the bigs and they are maybe squabbling over a few hundred thousand.

What if he gets hurt a Navarro?

I think you could open a whole discussion up over the fans that pay the tickets, the agents that drive the $ and the owners that pay the $

While I can respect someone wanting to get as much as possible - this has become a some what dis-appointment for me.
Wow, i was just searching the MLB website, looking for Bevan's name to maybe see what stupid comments he says or what his progress is, then i turn to the all mighty HS baseball web.
Why in the heck would you not go, 17th pick OVERALL and crazy hot-headed Bevan doesnt think that 1.4 is enough? IF i were him i would go for 1 dollar and 4 cents, but hey im not 6'8' or whatever throwing high 90's now am i.

As long as you included in that discussion the fact that attendance for MLB is at an all time high. Wink

Want to see players stop getting over paid? Want to see owners stop giving foolish contracts?

Easy...................

Stop going to the games. Wink

Players have gone on strike......Let's see fan's go on strike..............

Unfortunately it won't happen. It's like selling banana's to a monkey, you all must have it to live.

Definition of insanity..............

Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

Continuing to pay high cost ticket prices and gripe about over paid players. Mad

A wise old man once told me (Ed Napoleon...former 1st base coach for the Texas Rangers).......

"Those who create the monster must learn to live with the monster. "Smile

Fortunately for me, it doesn't cost me a dime to watch Pilot Point's Baseball Association. In fact, I'm packing my cooler for tomorrow's games in Celina. You wouldn't believe the seats that are available.

Blake,

Do what you want. Calvin Murray was the 11th pick in the first round in 1989 and the 7th pick in the first round in 1992. He went to college, it's not a bad thing. Get the contract you want. Most people on here are DADS who never even played baseball and all they do is congradulate each others sons. I would like to see you be a Ranger, but if you don't get what you want, then don't do it.
You played - congrats. Wish I had. I am just saying it's a vicious circle. If the owners have the money and don't give it to the players, the players ask for more - and the tickets get out of hand. Something has to give.

If he blows his arm out at JUCO and gets less money what will you tell him?

Yes we Dads like to brag about our sons. At least they go to college and learn how to spell congratulate - huh? Wink

But if you get 7 figures and manage it properly - do you need college?
I know u you were in a hury - just trying to have fun. Life is too short and we all need to laugh.

I understand what you are telling Blake. Such a small percentage get to go where he has a chance to be and I would hate to see it wasted on an injury that for a few hundred thousand. Now if is is offered 1.X and gets 2.x - it is a different story.

Anyone who played this great game at the level you did deserves a pat on the back. My hat is off to you guys. It is a God given talent and in my opinion artistry in motion when on the field.

Absolutely the greatest game ever.

We all wish Blake well in his decision. Let's hope it is his decision and not some agent trying to juice up their cut.

If he goes to Navarro at least we can drive a short distance to watch!
No matter what amount of $'s Blake eventually signs for will be irrelevant at some point in the future. He will be judged more by his success or failure as a pitcher than how he negotiates his first contract. If he makes it to the Rangers in 2 or 3 years and has a successful career he will be judged as a confident tough kid who doesn't care what other think of him. If he spends 5 or 6 years in the minors or gets hurt and never makes it to the Rangers he will be judged as a selfish, cocky *** who couldn't cut it.

I would guess he will sign with the Rangers before school starts for as much $$$ as he can get, no different then most people would want to achieve if they were negotiating for their sons future.
Well as you know, I really have to keep everything on the quite side or the "No Comment" side these days, but since these are some of my "Friends" and some of Blake's "Friends" posting here I thought I would leave a comment:

So far no one that has posted has been through what we are going through right now because 2007 has new rules that have never been experienced before in the MLB or the Advisor/Agency world. Because we are in Texas I will say it is like "Texas Hold-Em".

The MLB says the day before the draft; "GM's we are going to force your teams to stick to slot" for the 1st round. If you do not, then your team will be penalized. However, that does not mean that the supplemental round and beyond can bargain for what they can get. So basically they are trying to sqeeze out the Advisor/Agency from having any purpose in the first round, but the guys who drop to the supplemental and beyond can haggle until 08-14th at 11:59pm to get what they want without having to get approval from MLB.

If they want something consistent, then make a "Mandatory Slot" for all 50 rounds for each and every pick of the amature draft and stop the madness.

Only 13 of the 1st 30 picks have signed and they had a pre-determined $ amt agreed upon at that pick. The remaining 17 who have not signed did not have a dollar amount offered to them if that team picked them at that pick.

I just wanted to let everyone know what I know to this point in case it helps you with your sons in the future.

We have made sure that Blake has all his options available and that GOD will ultimatley be the one who directs the path!

God Bless Everyone

What's a few hundred thousand or even a million in the grand scheme of things? If he's going to be in the show in 2-3 years like he says he is, what's the difference. Why not go ahead and sign, get a couple months of pro ball behind you, and then get it later. He'll be making several million a year in 6 or 7 years, so why hold up the career for a few hundred thousand now? Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know. I signed for $26,000 back in 81 being the 76th pick in the draft!!

I bet the Yankees still get grief over the Brien Taylor pick!! What a joke!

If Blake signs for slot will you still pay the agent(s) 3-5%. Would you feel justified in doing so.

I hope your son gets what he is asking for, and good luck with the process.
