Now that our last child is off at school, I still want to be involved with this game I love. Can anyone offer any information on becoming an umpire in New Jersey? I live in central NJ and I’m open to any level of competition. Thanks in advance.

Did you check with your local LL? They have classes and also the local umpiring assn has training. For example big apple umpires and our CYO have classes
USABL is always looking for umpires. Willing to train.
I'm in northern NJ, and it seems that there is a shortage of umps. I know a few guys who umpire and can tell you that they could do multiple games every day of the season if they want to.
I am also from central NJ ... went through the NJSFU - Mickey Sedlak chapter when my kids grew and I no longer coached them. They had a training class - 2 nights a week in the winter - 6-8 weeks... after year 1 - you were JV certified... after year 2 - Varsity (if you pass the exams). Then you hook up with an assignor. The chapter can help you - as they have assignors that are members. I hooked up with teh assignor that was doing our local Cal Ripken league. If you are doing it for the money - this is the wrong path. Other sports pay much better for the hours put in. Feel free to PM me if you want more details.
