PG's Ben Ford made headlines that I know he would have just as soon avoided yesterday. Ben gave up Barry Bond's 661st homerun.

I know that this is not the type of notariety that Ben would have wanted but ....... I and thousands of other ex-ballplayers (and non ex-ballplayers) would gladly have traded places with him.

Fact of the matter is that Ben pitched well yesterday. 2.0 innings, 1 hit, 1 earned run, no walks, 7 batter faced.

You've got to be pretty good just to be in the position that young Mr. Ford was in last night!

It is not like the young man is the only pitcher to throw a home run pitch to Bonds

It is just nice to be in the position to be on the mound against him

A better question would be who hasn't thrown him a gopher ball? At least he is getting the chance to pitch against Bonds.

Hey, congrats to Ben for all the hard work and persistence that has gotten him to MLB. Sounds like he had a good showing on the mound in spite of one "infamous" swing of the bat!

oh my gosh...I didn't make the connection..wow, to even be good enough to be on that mound...what an honor to have made it to the show...

like TRhit said, Bonds has done this to pitchers a few times...

again, way to go go Ben...great thinks are ahead..

1 of many, many victims of Mr. Bonds, no shame in that. I'd rather do that than give up a homer to a light hitting "Wizard of Oz" in a playoff game.

I was sitting with a couple of very highly-touted HS pitchers at a college baseball game the other night just after word reached us that #661 was hit (we didn't know off who). I asked them, "if you were facing Bonds and he could hit #661 off you, would you challenge him or pitch around him?"

Both immediately repsonded they would, without a doubt, challenge him. Youthful exhuberence? Probably. But I know they BOTH would have loved to have been in young Mr. Ford's place the other day.

Congratulations to Barry Bonds and congratulations to young Ben Ford for being good enough to be a part of history. Might not have felt too great at the time, but he's got a story for his grandkids now.
