The bench press with the bar alone with increase the chest size and if you stay constant it your max your heavenly increase, thats not the best thing for baseball. My max is 305. Smile The dumbells work more on isolation. But I heard it wasn't the best to put a lot of weight on the rotater so watch out. Push-ups are very effective! That is the reason why my max got so high. A mix of weights and about 200-300 pushups a day.Not just normal push-ups inclined and declined as well.
Knocturnal, you need to get some of your facts straight. DB press does not work more on isolation. In fact it involves many more stabilizer muscles with is why it is harder to do. And your rotator cuff has very little to do with bench press, so you needn't worry about that. And pushups won't do much in the way of strength, but they will inrease endurance. Oh and I have absolutely no idea what that first sentence means.

I broke my arm and I couldn't throw. Therefore, throwing leads to broken arms. Same kind of logic, right?

Remember,The term stabilizers is context dependent; it depends on what activity you are doing.

Muscles can act as prime mover, syngergists, antgonists, and stabilzers, all depending one what you are doing.

In other words , there is no such thing as a group of muscles called " stabilizers".

I don't think anyone thought that there was a group of muscles called the stabilizers.
How ever there are many muscles that act primarily as stabilizers. The role of these muscles is to not allow motion (act isometrically) despite gravity pulling on your body. I learned about that in my Kinesiology class (the study of motion~this class particularly involvesd joints and muscles)

There are also two types of contractions: ecentric(slows things down and consentric (speeds things up)
also all the joints in your body involve bones that are connected to muscles and tendons and ligaments which again are connected to more muscles. so in other words all things are connected and the rotator cuff involves 4 muscles that are used to stabilize the shoulder joint. So bench pressing could possible effect the rotator cuff to a certain extent
