My 13yr old son is interested in umpiring. Any suggestions on books he should read? I understand the obvious rule books but I am looking for books about umpiring beyond just the rules.
To start he isn't going to be working 90ft bases, which is what most books are written for. Is he going to be working in a Little League system or some other like Pony, Dixie or Cal Ripken? PM me and I can send you a slide presentation for mechanics in LL.
there are a number of books on rules and mechanics but they usually apply to the higher levels (90 ft bases). they can be a bit over technical and dry...but they can still be a world of information.
MST can and will send you some info for the LL end and I have access to PONY info. We both train new umpires for our respective associations and am sure will be willing to help out as much as possible.
PS... I sent you a PM regarding some other info for your son....
