baseball program had their best year ever in 06. Won the league and advanced to the NCAA regional tourney. This however has not been the case in the past....typically a lower middle NASCAC team....good D3 baseball league...very short season....wonderful school....you go to Bowdoin for the education first, not the baseball..........daughter just graduated
With Connelly there, Bowdoin will remain one of the top NESCAC baseball programs with Tufts, Trinity, Amherst, and Williams.

Last year, Bowdoin did not win the NESCAC. They won their division, lost in the playoffs, but got an at large bid to the NCAAs. One of their graduates, Jared Lemieux, was signed by an Independent League team.

As Sosa said, it's a fantastic school. The only disadvatage with the NESCACs is that some don't play the full 40 game schedule. My brother is at Tufts, and this year they'll play 36. Still, the tradeoff isn't a bad one, because they are all great schools.

Son considered Tufts for education and baseball. BUT, Coach Casey really didn't go out of his way to make him feel very welcome. Coach Burr saw son at the College Select Showcase in Binghamton, New York. Invited him to visit the campus and stop in to see Coach Casey. Coach Casey wasn't there!! Son sent e-mail with website (Skillshow) to view him during the showcase. Son followed-up, but Coach Casey said he didn't have the necessary computer "gadgets" to download from the website????????????????? Poor communicator via e-mail and letters. Son let Coach know that he would not be attending Tufts. Coach replied back, and I quote, "thanks for letting us know good luck in your college career".

He might be well respected and all that, but not to much of a "people" person, at least in our case. Must be nice to be king!!!!

Yes Casey at Tufts may not have lit you up with his style, but he is a good coach, period. That said, Bowdoin is a great choice. Be ready for some cool weather "their nickname is the Polar Bears". The NESCAC schools all are into their sports and the academics and campus life are classic.Wheaton,Brandeis, and Babson all have good BB programs and great academics plus the New England college, be near Boston etc.

Mass Fan. How is Ben's arm healing?

I'm not knocking his coaching abilities, and yes, we heard he has had good teams in the past! Just don't understand how one coach invites you to campus while your in New York, and then you make a detour in your trip to drive to Medford, MA to meet the Head Coach who was supposed to be available to meet with the student. Doesn't have anything to do with his coaching ability. Son liked the school and campus very much after we took a tour, but when there was little response, except for a year old newsletter about the team, he just couldn't understand why one coach was interested and the other ignored him and wouldn't even call him on the phone!!!!

I just think that the coaching staff has to be more inline with one another as to who they want to recruit, and invite. Many, many coaches expect these young men to be respectful and mature, as adults, but unfortunately those same coaches don't practice what they preach. It was at least a good lesson for my son as to seeing how the real world is as an adult, and how sometimes you can't always believe what you hear from people.
Boomer:

My experience is this: The more interested a coach is in a player, the more attention he pays to the player. It would be great if they all reached out to any player who went out of his way to express an interest in the program. Unfortunately, that's just not how it is in many, many cases. For what it is worth, it is the same -- or even worse -- with women's s****r.
RT,
Ben started rehabbing today...he will not be able to throw untill January and does not expect to start the season in the rotation...he's hoping that he'll have everything back to normal by April....maybe he'll face Rap when he gets back...

Any word on Rap's arm? How about Kiely's?

Boomer-
Casey certainly has his share of people that don't like him or have had negative experiences with him. When he recruited Ben, he was the lead recruiter and called once a week. I'm not sure how it works when an assistant takes the lead. Regardless, he is definitely not infallible and it sounds like he messed up when you and your son were visiting.

I really don't dislike Coach Casey, and I'm sure it doesn't matter. I was just expressing some sentiments about how young people are supposed to be mature, be polite or courteous, be friendly, etc. I'm probably making more out of this than I should, but there are many, many young people out in the world that are very intelligent and mature, who are infact quit capable of handling themselves when dealing with "adults".

My son thought it was a great fit for him, school, academics, location, neighborhood, the things that were similar to home. Having had the opportunity to visit Rochester in November after our trip out east, he is very happy with what Rochester had to offer, all the way around. Super school, education, location, people, and he really likes the guys and coaches on his team. They have made him feel very, very welcome!
