This is the best article I've seen regarding pitch counts. Wren hit one out of the park on this. He nailed it.

IMO, your best pitchers are your starters. Period. Even the great Mariano Rivera was converted into a short reliever for a reason.

Middle relievers are pitchers typically not good enough to start and are there only if the starter can't go on.

If I were running a professional baseball club, I would expect all my pitchers to progress thru the system with the training and mindset to pitch 9 innings. The ones who can would start, the best of the of the rest would be the closer and would be required to be able to pitch 2-3 innings when called on. Sure he may get used less but I would expect the starters to carry the load and be able to finish what they start. The rest of the relievers would be used for garbage time and eat innings when the game is out of hand.

You only think he “nailed it” because you interpreted what he wrote as being exactly what you believe. I read it and right away called a friend in the Braves organization who said what actually takes place is something substantially different than what was represented in the article.

And that’s why you’d never be considered to run a professional baseball club. One size never fits all.

So what did he say exactly what was meant in the article?

So basically you're saying that your friend who's in the Braves organization is calling the Braves GM a liar. I read the article and it's quite clear what it says. Is there a a link to an article that refutes Wren's statements in the article
