While I'm not a high school football coach, and don't pretend to be, what the Carroll or Trinity coaches were perhaps saying behind their hands would seem to be pretty far removed from actual Friday Night Lights coaching.
"Sit on that route" would seem to be the baseball equvalent of "Get a hit!"
"Don't let him get behind you" after Brett Shipp's camera shows he's gotten behind you, would be on a par with "Don't give him anything to hit" after he's hit two doubles.
It may be encouragement, or it might be second guessing, but coaching? If that's the case, every 4A and 5A school in the state has at least 3,000 unpaid assistants on staff every Friday night, and twice that many on Saturday morning following a loss.
While on the subject of coaches not doing the right thing, I thought I'd post this story about Greenville and their coach that looks to have done the right thing.

Putting that foot down. Good on the coach.
Wonder if he took any slack from the kids parents or the parents of the kids who didn't get suspended.
If he's going to catch heat on this, it will come from the superintendent. Question is...how will the superintendent deal with the heat from the parents?
On the Greenville football issue.... Why would you want those players that refused to run for missing practice on your team?
They did the crime, now do the time. Miss practice, run your a$$ off and keep playing. Sounds simple to me.
