Two of the biggest pieces of garbage there is.

The best part of today's Yankee game was when they both shut their pie holes for a Ernie Harwell moment of silence.

Too bad it wasn't a game-long moment of silence.

The game without these two J.O.'s spewing their garbage was soothing and a pleasure to watch. With all games were broadcasted like this where all you hear are the umps, players and fans.

Then complaining Yankees intentionally threw at the only batter they hit in who knows how long while Red Sox pitchers are throwing at Yankees like they're in a shooting gallery.

And the score was only 2-1, not 8-1 when Pedroia got hit.

I'm hoping these two pieces of garbage get hit by a Boston cabbie crossing the street so they'll be shut up forever,

I thought only umpires hated announcers...especially former players who think they know everything.

From "that's a catch, he took three steps" to "everyone knows the tie goes to the runner" listening to these pseudo experts is a painful experience. Throw in the "homer" comments and it becomes torture fitting of Gitmo.

Every time Buck + McCarver call a Yankee game, their anti-Yankee point of view on everything drives me up a wall. McCarver is the worst. If I ever see that guy in public I'm going Neon Deon all over him! lol...

Yea..They're pathetic with their anti-Yankee POV. You'd think they could at least call it straight up since they're regional/national broadcasters.
I sort of had the impression a few years ago they were pro-Yankee. I agree That Beckett looked like he was plunking Yankees by the handful Friday. I'm not sure he would purposely dot Jeter with the bases loaded, but it sure looked like it.

Buck and MCarver are torturous to listen to, though. Chip Carey (Braves) might be the worst local announcer. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have good broadcasters. YES does an exceptional job, imo.

I hate to listen to Joe Morgan on ESPN. Jon Miller is great to listen to but his partner kills me. When he tries to explain how / why players do things in games he acts like it is some secret that he's letting us in on.

A couple of weeks ago they were doing a Twins game and he brought up the contract Mauer just signed and started the discussion of how teams pick and choose which free agents to be they resign. He was trying to figure out why they let Torii Hunter walk a couple of years ago and why they went after Mauer. Maybe I'm wrong here but I got the impression he was trying to play the race card. I guess he didn't factor in the fact the Twins were going to use that huge influx of new stadium money to resign Mauer that they didn't have when they let Hunter go.
coach2709,

Re: Signing Mauer vs. signing Hunter...

Twins fans LOVED Torii Hunter and would have been thrilled to have him stay here for the rest of his career, but most understood that it wasn't possible financially at the time.

But Joe Mauer is OUR HOMETOWN BOY. Born and raised in Minnesota, drafted by the Twins out of HS. The Twins HAD to sign Mauer, or leave most of us crying for a long, long time.

In my eyes, there is no comparison between those two contract decisions, which confirms your point about the announcers.

Someone beat me to the punch with this website.

I used to be able to stomach Joe Buck, but he has run his course through my system like the stomach flu. The only think that would be worse would be the Yankee announcer - John Sterling.

John Miller and Joe Morgan are good as long as Morgan is paired with Miller. By himself (Morgan) or paired with another play-by-play announcer, Morgan would not have the same effect. I like Miller, he is pretty darn good, fair, and balanced.
Hey, while they're bad, sometimes really bad, if they're anti-Yankee, they're not all bad!

As an Oriole fan, and yes, Virginia, there are a few, I am sick of seeing the stinking Yankees on national TV-Fox Saturday, ESPN, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday-did the YES network need a break?

Maybe show Tampa Bay, the resurgent Nationals, the Twins in their neat new park...anybody but the Yankees.

We have MLB Extra Innings and both MASN's, so thankfully the occasions when the Evil Empire is the only game going is rare...but I get so tired of promos for the next Yankees game...

Count me as one vote for Jon Miller. He's great. I could listen to him read the phone book. It sure was nice of Peter Angelousy to run him out of Baltimore, but our loss was the nation's gain.

MN-Mom - Great point about how Mauer is a hometown boy and why he got resigned. I didn't even think of that. Joe Morgan just stirs up trouble.

I don't watch Sunday night baseball as much as I would like to (most of it due to Morgan) but from what I've seen I get the feeling that Morgan and Hersheiser don't see eye to eye on many things. Does anyone else feel that or is it just me?

You always got WGN and the Cubs / Sox games on. Actually they show fewer games than they did when I was growing up. It never failed when I was a kid - wake up go outside and throw a ball against the wall for a couple of hours then come inside around 1ish for lunch and watch the Cubs on TV. Then around 4ish after the game go back outside to throw the ball against the wall again until dad came home around 5:30ish and had dinner at 6.

Got to listen to Harry Carry and Steve Stone talk about Leon Durham, Ryne Sandberg, The Hawk, Jody Davis, Rick Sutcliffe and I can remember when Shawn Dunston came up with that cannon of an arm. Those were definately the good old days. Now I have to pay bills and stuff.
Coach2709,

Your point on Hersheiser and Morgan not seeing eye to eye all the time is a great one, and for that reason I like the booth the way it is. ESPN would be foolish to change anything. I like the point /counterpoint views that both former players bring. Each has an intersting perspective on most topics or baseball situations....but as always I make up my own mind.

That same year, the Twins also TRADED the best pitcher in the game, Santana, to the Mets for virtually nothing... Having said that, to compare Mauer and Hunter is ludicrous...

Mauer = HISTORIC-Player, 3-Time batting Champion, MVP, #1 Catcher in the game, 2-Gold Gloves, 3-Silver Sluggers... Resigned at 26 years old.

Hunter = NON-HISTORIC Player, 9-Time Gold glove winner, 1-Silver Slugger... Free Agent at 32 years old.

It could be because he (thinks he) is smarter than his audience and he thinks nobody watching has ever played let alone coached the game. He has a pleasant voice, so that's good.
Trying to make the Twins choices of signing players racist is a bunch of hogwash. Hunter is getting older, Santana is a pitcher. Mauer is an everyday player who could end up in the Hall of Fame. The most important thing is the signing of Mauer occured as the Twins were about to start reaping the financial rewards of a new stadium.

The Phillies used to be cheap. They started spending money when they knew there would be a larger revenue stream from a new stadium. It started with the signing of Jim Thome.

New stadiums bring bigger luxury box revenues and a general ticket revenue steam of sellouts for two or three years based on fan curiosity of the new stadium. The key is to win when the fans start showing up so they want to return.

They all do speak slowly and repeat themselves about ten times an inning, so that's good.
