Almost hijacked the "College player HBP" thread, but thought better.
There's a D1 player who, at the plate, has had catcher's interference called like 5 times already this year. All against different teams.
What gives?

Sounds like someone doesn't know how to hit to me.....
I see this as a guy who has the goal of getting on base because it helps the team win but it sounds like he's went too far with it. Instead of focusing on being a good hitter to help the team it sounds like he's a rah rah guy that focuses on the wrong things thinking it's helping the team.
Pete Rose is the all-time leader, having reached 29 times on CI.
Aaron, Mays, Ripken: zero

Sorry I don't know the correct words to describe this, but there is a particular type of swing that my son has to watch out for when he is catching. He tries to take notice when the players are doing their practice swings. He calls it a "round swing" and if he doesn't know it is coming it will hit his glove every time....the only way to counter act it is to get his glove nearly in the dirt or get way back off the plate.
Perhaps that is this guy's glitch?

Yeah, "casting" is a common flaw in youth and even into HS ball but hard to imagine a position player having enough success to make a D1 roster with this mechanical issue. I suspect, in this case, the act is more intentional.

Why not give a name... maybe I could find some video on him and take a look.
Whats the call if the batter intentionally hits the catchers glove? I saw it happen when my son was catching the umpire made the hitter return to the box and called it a strike. Seems like there should be a more significant penalty?
Depending on the circumstances, the umpire could rule it an unsportsmanlike act or even malicious contact. If it interfered with the catcher making a play, it could be interference.
So theoretically it could lead to an out or an ejection.
I've never seen a play where such calls were made or would have been appropriate.
Has as anybody seen this guy who has drawn 5 CI calls? is he doing anything unusual?

NCAA rule 7-4 A Strike is:
h. Awarded if the batter deliberately steps back in the box or swings in such a manner to attempt to create catcher’s interference. If the swing hits the catcher or the mitt, the batter shall be called out. All base runners shall return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch.
