Sorry, I have to do this.

Does anyone know how much MLB makes on merchandise?  As of December 2015:

In terms of fan apparel, retail sales of MLB merchandise exceeded $3 billion annually according to The Licensing Letter.

There is a huge difference between "retail sales" and what a club "makes" off of jersey sales.  Profit is Revenue less Expenses.

And the Astros jerseys from the 70's and 80's were beautiful.

But I do agree with the sentiment of your post.

Point taken.  Given the cost of producing this stuff in Asia - I bet they have at least a 50/60% margin.  Still plenty of dough flowing into the coffers for all involved.  I can't help you with those Astros uni's but they probably were better than the tangerine getups they have now.

FWIW - The best two uniforms in the sport - Yanks and Dodgers haven't changed much in 75 years.  They don't do the alternative thing at all either that I can recall.

I have believed from the beginning that this has very little to do with uniforms and everything to do with a toxic clubhouse.  Time to start over, from GM/front office to players.  I would say owner, too, but that's not how it works.

The further this goes on, the more millions Sale has cost himself.

Sale hasn't and will not cost himself a thing. He's too valuable of a talent. Like it or not it's the way it is. A 4-8 5.00 player would have been released.

Chances are Williams phone is ringing off the hook with potential offers for Sale. The Red Sox backed off when he asked for either Bogaerts or Betts along with three top prospects.

Unless a team is willing to unload its farm system (think Moncada, Benintendi, Devers and Doubon) expect Sale to stay with the White Sox at least until the end of the season.

For Sox fans I've seen Moncada play a couple of times. He's a man among boys. He may be better eventually than all the Sox's starting young players.

This agree with - He also will be smart enough to stop the silliness and go back to pitching.

My first thought was it wouldn't matter for his next contract.  But when you get into the 7 yr/$210m stratosphere, I think teams will choose another route.

Like one of my earlier posts said, win a Cy Young or two, lead your team to the playoffs/WS a couple times before his next contract and he is a nutty, clubhouse "cut-up".  Keep sticking his nose into poo (refusing to play clubbies in Seattle, siding with LaRoche, cutting up jersey's) and he costs himself money.

Barring injury and continued performance until 2020 he SHOULD get a 7 year $250-$300MM contract.

That will happen if Old School is right and he backs away from the Laroche, clubbie and uniform nonsense - because it will take only one desperate team (Price/Red Sox) to give him the payday.  There is always at least one of them.

But if the mess continues to one degree or another he'll still get paid but it might be shorter years or club options and maybe the numbers aren't as big.  Unless he really steps in it though the probability is he will get the full payoff if performance is there.

Ok, I'm not a pro and not even close.  When I was playing in a "semi pro league," we had our uniforms "stolen."  Our uniforms were blue.  So, the league said that we could play our Sunday DH but we did have to wear blue.  Many of us had Blue's jerseys.  (Hockey Blues)  So, we wore them.  I thought how stupid we looked wearing hockey jerseys but we played and we played well.  You bet they were bulky and uncomfortable.  ITS A JERSEY!  It is not your competitive nature.   BTW, thank goodness our uniforms were misplaced and not stolen.  Sale messed up.

Oh, I thought that I'd report this year to my classroom in shorts.  Why not?  The PE Teachers get to wear them.  I'll wear the shorts and one of my tee shirts.  My boss won't care.  LOL

Coach, I gotta say... this whole "shorts and a t-shirt" thing is pretty nice!

It would be ugly.  I'd type here what I used to say to the baseball boys about ugly but I'd get in trouble.

Lest the graybeards among us forget, at the same time those goofy shorts and shirts unis were worn by the players, there were hot pants contests during the seventh inning stretch.  Ah, those were the days.
