I joined this board in 2011 and my son was just 8 at the time. He's a 14 year old 2021 today. I'm glad to say that I'm still here. I didn't know back then that my son would still be in the game. After all, I wasn't at his age as I moved on to other sports by that time. I also don't know how long he will remain in the game. I just know that he loves the game today, he's looking forward to high school and he has a desire to play in college. Because of his love for the game, I try to enable him to accomplish his goals as much as I can. That enablement oftentimes comes in the form of knowledge.
I get a lot of that knowledge from this site.
My general theme over the years has probably been to "read more and post less". I guess you could say I lurked for a number of years. Because of that lurking, I feel like I know some of these long time posters' style on the board. I also know that due to my lack of posting, you may know less about me as a member here. I remember reading in those "old days" that several have mentioned. Posters like GotWood, for example, brought a lot of levity with his pictures.
So, why am I in this thread?
I don't think it's a coincidence that some of the best advice I've received on this board have come from many of same posters who are in this thread today.
A few weeks ago, I shared one of my first posts on this board in the PM group. I am going to resurrect that post here.
Coach May, PIAA_ump, CabbageDad, TPM, RJM, infieldDad and many more chimed in.

I shared that post with them in the group because my son had asked me to take him to the cage to hit before a game a couple of weeks ago. There were two games that day and I knew I was at the park all day and all night just because that's what travel ball is on a Saturday...right? Honestly, taking him to the cage wasn't in my plans that day but remembering the responses from Coach May, PIAA_Ump and CabbageDad from 6 years ago are the reasons why I did.
So I guess I'm a bit of a hybrid. I've made some friends in that PM group. I look forward to making more friends out here on the site as my son continues on his journey.
This board is like most things in life. You get out of it what you put into it. Your mileage may vary.
