Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought too. Having my son send him an email. I responded as well just to see what happens.

Did the email include a cell number?  If so, that normally indicates it's more than a mass email/camp invite.  If there is a number, have your son go ahead and give the coach a call. 

As for the email, have your son reply.....do not reply yourself.  Coaches are looking at kids, not their parents.  You really should have no contact with coaches unless it's to the point where it's getting serious....or with money questions, etc.  Your son should be the only contact point for a coach.

It has a phone number but not sure if it's a cell or office #? I told him to call but I think he's nervous about it. I told him not to be scared and just reach out. Ah the joys of raising a teenager

One of the things your son can do is look up the coaches on the school's website. Usually they will list their office number there -- if the number in the email is different than the office number, it is likely his cell number.

That said, most of the time when a coach sends his cell number it is clear -- it will say (c) or "cell" next to the number.

When your son calls, make sure he includes the question "where did you see me play?".  That will answer your question immediately.

Depends if you're kid is interested or not.  The local D3 schools around me cast a very wide net in order to field a team.  If the kid is interested respond and see where it goes.  

Good point 2019DAD. It's interesting because this particular program disbanded in 2011, due to lack of funding, but are starting again in 2018. Because it's so new the RC's info isn't on the website yet. But I did notice that his area code number is from a different part of the state. When he gets home from work I'll have him call.

GOLFMAN25, the school is in NY and we are in NC. Definitely a wide net.

He's a 2018

I notice it's not inviting him to a camp.  Sounds to me like he's interested because what was the point of him contacting your son if he wasn't inviting him to a camp?

With that being the case, I'm looking for guys that can come in and compete immediately for starting roles while also having a lot left in the tank to continue to get even better. NC, when your son lands at a college and you let us know here, I'll be one of the first to jump up and down and congratulate you both with all sincerity.   And I suspect that will happen.  

Meanwhile, I am going to be one of those guys here that plays a bit of devil's advocate/debbie downer and try to help assure that you are reading into these things with proper perspective.  Did the rest of the reply letter give any reference to something personal about your son that would be clearly unique to him and his status as a potential recruit for them?  Did they know anything about your son aside from the stated stats and grades on berecruited?  Has anyone from berecruited or son's travel or HS coaches been contacted by this school?  Does your son have a video on berecruited?  That would, at least, move the meter in the right direction.  This is a school with a new program, forced to cast a wide net even more so than others.  It may prove to be the perfect opportunity.   Just know that this reply note (at least, the part you have quoted) has just enough generic nature that it could be written for nearly anyone.  Some of the things I mention are things that will help you identify true interest.  

I thought I had pretty decent insight to the whole college recruiting scene.  Now, someone I am very close to is a newly appointed student assistant at the college level and is asked to handle some of the recruiting efforts.  Some of the stories about the lack of information they have on players that they market to and that he is asked to contact is really eye-opening.   Initial interest is exciting.  Allow son to be excited.  Just make sure your son, with your guidance, does due diligence.

Love the Buffalo area too--grew up 90 miles from Buffalo (Erie,PA). Went to a football game during their heyday (Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas Andre Reed, Steve Tasker...).The game was in the Arizona Cardinals first season. All scoring in game same side of field due to strong wind. Arizona had a 13 yard punt (Blew back in face). Each quarter added a new element: cold/wind, rain, sleet, snow.  Of course the joke that went around in the mid to late 90's> How do you spell the name of Buffalo's NFL team?  BiLLLLs.  Enjoy your visit.

"No kidding! I'm from Buffalo as well. Born and raised. We are about four hours away from Buffalo depending where in the area you are. A much friendlier drive than from North Carolina!

So I feel like they have a sincere interest. Being so far away isn't ideal but it will be up to my son to decide that.
